I want to know which free anti-virus is right for me. Since my laptop is old and slow, I need an anti-virus that doesn't slow down the computer too much. I heard MSE take up a lot of resources, is that true?

I've not seen it do that, but try it for yourself and see how it compares to other free ones.

I've found MSE to be very light weight.... but then again, I have plenty of system resources and RAM, so I've never really been concerned with the amount of resources being consumed. The only way to know for sure is to play with it and make sure it works for you.

The right antivirus? Easy, the one that you keep updated and fully understand how to use. There are many great free and paid options out there, and only you will know which one you prefer. Everyone is going to give you a different opinion on which AV is the best, and they are usually very territorial on protecting & recommending their AV of choice.

But in reality, the best antivirus is that thing that interacts with your mouse finger and eyes...........Your brain! Just a little common sense when it comes to blindly clicking on links, or blindly opening attachments or carelessly installing the latest cool questionable software will go a long way to never even having to use your AV.

If I'm the only person using the computer, then I don't have to worry about this. My sister always install "useful" stuff and I'm the one to remove it.

You're right, it is in the bottom of my Processes list. Chrome is on the top...

Since you are mainly concerned with system impact, then my recommendation is Webroot Secure Anywhere Complete. It is the lightest AV on the market, and gets rave reviews for its effectiveness on Wilders. It is rather expensive (in my opinion) but it fits your criteria.

Here is a cupon for 50% off WSA Webroot Discount ? Save Up To 50% on SecureAnywhere Products | Webroot

I know you wanted free, but it's just a thought.
