Build 7600 any changes?

Anyone know whether an upgrade install from 7232 would work?
I know clean installs are advised but I'd really rather just do it. I'll have the real thing in a few months.

Cheesrs:),John

Here on x86 I've just upgraded from 7264 flawlessly... running smooth here :)

Hi. Well I've successfully upgraded from 7232x64 to 7600x64 using the cversion.ini trick as outlined in the MS document mentioned by Harpua and Megabyte so thanks guys.
So far no major problems and everything seems to be ok, including my Hauppaugge WinTV DVB-T stick.
I have noticed that when I browse the Digg site my mouse pointer flickers in and out of existence to the point where I've had to give up using the site.
Not sure why this is and it doesn't seem to happen with other sites(yet) but it's worrying.
I use FF 3.5 and a Roccat Kone mouse.
I love this mouse to bits but it's been the only driver I've had to manually install with each build of W7 I've tried so it may well be something mouse related (but also Digg related:shock:?)
Any views on that would be welcome.
Also my RAM at idle was about 29% now it's 33%
As I say everything else is smooth but no noticeable improvement over 7232, in fact a couple of minuses really.

Cheers, John:)

i'm on 16384-1945 x64 too (upgraded from 7232) and everything seems groovy now that sven told me how to get daemon tools to work. :)

i have no problem with mouse pointer browsing digg - although i've only used chrome and ie8 (never really got on with foxy) - i've got logitech g3 rodent which works just great with no extra drivers (even extra buttons work fine). :) seems strange that only that website gives your mouse the heebie-geebies :)

haven't really paid much attention to ram usage, but like you john, i've got 4 gigs of the stuff, so i'm not too concerned about a little bit more being used - maybe the extra is being put to good use prefetching or something?

i had some punkbuster problems after the upgrade, but a quick manual service install allowed me to get a few more points in bf2 without getting kicked every five minutes! :D

in fact, i think the upgrade played around with my services quite a bit - i had to go back and manually disable a few of them after the upgrade - just can't stop tweaking!

all in all, i'm glad i upgraded - just coz i don't notice any obvious improvements, it doesn't mean that there aren't any less obvious ones! i presume m$ have been doing something to the os between builds 7232 and 7600? :)

Sometimes reinstalling problematic drivers (and rebooting) after an upgrade may help resolve some things that may be giving you issues like say a mouse giving erratic behavior.

I had to reinstall 3rd party firewall and AV, plus a touchpad driver, virtual clone drive, plus play around with my mouse and display driver after upgrading to 7600.16385 x64 to get everything running to my liking, but it is running pretty wonderfully now.

Probably have to do it all again in a few days when the real "final" RTM build becomes available. :D

I used the reg hack to change the back to #5 after installing and I noticed it is not the same as it was in previous builds. Is this a change or did I just never notice this?

upgrade from anything less than build 7233 not possible

nah, to upgrade from 7232 you need to extract the files from the iso somewhere and edit the cversion.ini file to change the minimum version of the CLIENT to at least 7231. Currently it is set at 7233 for the client and 7100 for the server, which confused me a bit.. This build was a client build, so how can you upgrade a server to a client? doesn't make too much sense; they are two separate products.

This raises a couple more questions for me:

Build 7260 is in the RC branch, so is it possible to upgrade from 7260 to 7600 without any cversion.ini editing?

Also,
does a build 7233 exist? I had only heard about 7232

Yes, you can upgrade from 7260 w/o editing cversion.ini because 7233 (the preset, as you noted) is a lower number than 7260.

Not up on the old versions so can't answer the second question.
