I am getting a curious error today.

Have made no changes to the system that could have caused it.

It goes to sleep for a couple of minutes - then turns off.

Never happened before.

I might have thought there was a resume object error - if it couldn't resume - but it never gats that far.

It just simply turns off after being asleep for a couple of mins.

Power options are as they always were.

Any ideas?

No mate, I am currently using 7137 x64.

Did you have something similar on another build?

I have used this for a long while without errors - strange.

I did have 7000 x86 on it a while back - but have deleted that and the bcd entries.

I had a similar problem that involved autohide taskbar and sleep on every build from 7000 to present. Sometimes it requires a hard reboot, sometimes nothing. SoLoR and I both have the same thing. There is some interaction between them. We both are 32bit though and I dont know if it happens in 64.

I had this problem a while back and it was caused by my wireless NIC card was holding the works up. I would uninstall and reinstall the latest driver and see if this causes it. If you go to the advanced Performance and tools option in the control panel, it may also show devices that are holding up sleep mode.

I'm just going to ask a obviously question...

Why are a lot of you posting these issues with old builds, when RTM is out?

Try upgrading, you have 120 days total trial, and in that aspect you can see if the issue is resolved. Instead of us trying to troubleshoot an issue that is possibly fixed in RTM.

Many people wait till official release so they can clean install, many others aren't pirates like yourself, and many others are on msdn and technet and want the real thing August 6th.

Wow thats a big assumption... thanks for the insult.

You don't know how I acquired my copy of RTM, nor do you know the status of my MSDN/Eco System membership.

But thanks for being ignorant about it.

Ok I mean so my suggestion isn't good?

Lets go ahead and troubleshoot issues on a beta/RC build, that are probably not fixable, and are a result of something in that build.. Rather then having the user try RTM to see if that resolves it...

That just seems backwards to me...

Gee, never thought of that.:sarc:

We don't all update all our boxes constantly with every new build - there wouldn't be time for anything else.

It doesn't appear to be a bug just in this build - never come across it before.

If the answer to everything is reinstall/do a repair install , etc - how would we learn anything?

" Why do you want to climb Everest?"

answer:

"Because it's there"

Unfortunately - in this case, don't think we are going to learn anything as it appears to have resolved itself.

Sorry, I should have mentioned the Event just said what we already knew - Kernel Power Failure.

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Thank you Ken, and also MSDN only has access to the RC1, so theres a BS answer. Not that I really care in the first place, but some people need a wake up call, I thought you fell under the cattegory. Also Kernel Power failure I have seen sometimes in Vista, so glad you found your answer. Now the question is if itll go away on its own or if it will reoccur.

Besides, who hasn't?

I'm going thru the same problem.
It goes into sleep mode then a few mins later it turns off the machine. Upon re-startup it tells me it wants to send the info to MS I say ok but nothing ever comes back from MS on the probelm.

Might be worth it to go back to vista.

This happens on my system with storage drivers designed for Vista. It's a small piece of coding (according to Microsoft when I submitted a bug report on it) - but it's essential for the system to sleep.

I'd suggest updating to Win7 drivers for your storage controller.
