Added the shark007 W7 codecs thingie & FLACs indeed play in WMP now but the individual track times don't show even if the track is playing. Is there way to "enable" that?

Here is a quote from the Setup and usage page,
"64bit users, after installing both the 32bit Win7codecs and the x64Components addon, do the following in both Settings Applications.

After installation, rightclick the Settings Application shortcut, and choose Run as Adminstrator.
The Reset function runs and completes the innitial setup. This only happens once, on 1st use, to setup the codecs."

Maybe that will help.

Ok, I did go back & check my initial download from earlier today which was version 3.6.9 Final. So I uninstalled that & reinstalled version 3.7.0.0. Also did resets as you mentioned but unfortunately didn't fix. I'm only interested in FLAC's playing - is there a way to just add that codec? That's what I've done on previous WMP's & then they display properly just like mp3's or whatever. That exact codec may not work due to 64 bit I guess (?).

The display of flac file properties are tied to the Icaros thumbnaling feature.
Go to the Config TAB od the 64bit app and click the button, [Icaros Thumbnailing]
If there is no error message, are you able to disable and re-enable Icaros?

Got no error message. Icaros was activated. I deactivated then activated again but didn't help.

I did just install WMP Tag Support Extender which got FLACs displaying "better" as in artist & song names in the right columns now but still not the track times.

Just use Winamp for music.

If you have an extensive music collection, you might give Jaangle a try. It's terrific.

Both provide native built-in support for FLAC without the need for any external codec package at all. And you'll see all music file info (like track time) and tag field values with FLAC and other music file formats, just as with MP3.

Both support album art (either as "cover.jpg" in an album folder, or imbedded album art in tags).

The WMP Tag Plus plug-in adds full FLAC tagging support to WMP, including support for track times.

Before installing WMP Tag Plus, it's recommended to uninstall WMP Tag Support Extender first to prevent conflicts between the two tagging plug-ins.

+1 also -- Winamp beats everything else I've tried - also ripping CD's to FLAC will tag files automatically too. (Mp3tag works fine as well even for FLAC files).

Winamp plays also IN FOLDERS ( I find this incredibly useful) -- particularly with Classical music -- you could have Beethoven Piano Concerto nr 1 -- now you might have several versions of this played by different orchestras etc -- or when compiling Albums this piece of music could exist on different albums.

Organising by folders (or directories) makes the whole exercise really simple -- point winamp to the folder and simply start playing. It has a decent sound equalizer too which you can INDIVIDUALLY set as well --instead of those horrible pre-set canned ones which always assume people want "Boomy" over emphasized Bass.

(I have the same application - WINAMP) on my mobile phone -which also plays FLAC -- copying music is simple - windows explorer is all you need --no "Syncronize - import " type stuff and no music library software needed -- proprietary methods of storing music IMO always end up in tears -- broken data base or whatever. By having your music stored just like any other windows data makes backup and restore SIMPLE.

I really would forget using WMP. (In any case it will be "an extra feature" for Windows 8).

BTW VLC will also play FLAC files and give you times. I know VLC is used for video but it also does almost all known Audio codecs too. VLC has a decent audio equalizer too tools===>Effects and filters.

Cheers
jimbo
