Truecrypt incorrect password or not a truecrypt volume

Ok I have started the decryption process now, I will get back to you once I have finished the next next encryption process and tested to see if I can open the the other two drives.

Encrypt done I'm still not able to access the drives. Damn there has to be another way. I've had these files for so long damn I cant lose them.

I'm using testdisk now to look for any lost partitions. One think that also came to mind if I format the 2 drives might I be able then to recover the files with Stellar Phoeni Data Recovery Professional.

Have you checked the keyboard layout to make sure that it hasn't been set to something different from what it was when you set the passwords? For example, the English US and UK versions have slight variations whereby certain characters are in different positions (e.g. Shift 2 on UK yields " whereas the same key press on US gives @).

Nope still getting incorrect password. I just don't get it how this can happen with 2 hard-drives.

Hi,

I'm not really sure what else can be done - TrueCrypt doesn't have a 'backdoor'. The only way to decrypt is by using the keypass that was used to encrypt the files

Why dident I make a backup before this happened of all the things that could happen. I had so many important files on there my best chance will probably be to run Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery - Professional

I'm currently running Data Recovery Utility to see if I can find any lost partitions.

Nope still dosent work I just remembered something this program called true truecrack that runs on gpu when brutforcing. I recently downloaded but program can only be opened through nvidia development kit: truecrack - Password cracking for truecrypt(c) volume files. - Google Project Hosting[/url

It could permantently corrupt the truecrypt containers......also discussing cracking software is skating on the edge of the forum rules.

Do you have any other backups of the trucrypt container? If not, then I think you have exhausted all your options -- the final chance was a restoring of the header information, but as you have seen that doesn't always work.

No I have no backup. I'm gonna try and use data recovery utility and scan for the missing partitions

I remember reading somewhere that you could experience trouble with opening vaults with another computer, especially if it was running a different operating system. Don't know if this is the case with you, but thought I would mention it.

No I am not using the PC that I used to create the truecrypt pass for the external hardrive, I'm currently using a laptop now. But this just might work I'm travelling back home again soon so I'm gonna try that then. Thanks for the info.
