Laptop USB mouse stopped working, and I'm clueless[FIXED]

Hi, this problem started a few days back, when I installed the USB drivers for a LG C105 mobile phone(maybe unrelated) on a Sony Vaio NS230E, after the installation, my USB mouse stopped working, I installed the same drivers on my desktop too without any problems. Note that the Touchpad still work, so does the USB, detects flash drivers and my phone (Google Nexus S).
I took these steps before becoming completely clueless, here they follow:
1. tried other USB ports.
2. Other mouse.
3. reboot.
4. Uninstalled the driver stated above.
5. System restore to 2 days back.
6. Installed the drivers for my mice.
7. My windows wasn't up to date so I installed all the important updates and some bug fix optional updates.
8. Tried Microsoft Fixit. Note: I had 2 mice that have already been connected to this laptop, when I connect them, they light up, but they don't work, and they do not show in device manager. But when I connect my desktop's mouse (which I've never used on this laptop) Windows shows an "Unrecognized Device" dialog. And I see an unrecognized device under the USB section in device manager. I ran Microsoft Fixit in this situation but obviously it did nothing.
9. Today I inserted a Windows 7 disc and had the PC boot from it. Was hoping that maybe repair or complete re-installation may fix it, but apparently, it won't because the USB mouse still doesn't work in Windows installation wizard. I'm completely clueless now.

I was hoping you'd be more thorough if at all possible. But if the only thing you noticed in both the device manager and system information is just:

Note: I had 2 mice that have already been connected to this laptop, when I connect them, they light up, but they don't work, and they do not show in device manager. But when I connect my desktop's mouse (which I've never used on this laptop) Windows shows an "Unrecognized Device" dialog. And I see an unrecognized device under the USB section in device manager.

I wouldn't have any ideas to help you aside from trying to download a generic driver for the desktop's mouse and see if you can get that one to work, then tinker from there.

Hello m1l4droid and welcome to seven Forums.

Have no idea if this will help in your situation but it sometimes solves weird USB problems.

Shut down laptop
Remove AC power cord
Remove the battery
Press and hold the laptop power button for 30 seconds
Reinstall the battery
Reconnect the AC power cord
Restart laptop
Reconnect and try USB mouse

Another possibility involves possibly changing the power options for USB devices. (I'm not on a Windows 7 machine right now so this is from memory .)

Remove USB mouse
Open device manager
Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Open the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Scroll down to USB Root Hub
Right-click that entry and choose Properties.
A dialog box should open with several (I think four) tabs
Choose Power Management tab
You should see a box check marked for "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power"
Uncheck this box
Repeat the same steps for all other USB Root Hubs listed
Close all dialog boxes including device manager
Reboot the computer to save changes
Reconnect and try USB mouse

What kind of info you need? Tell me to see if I can gather more information. But for now, afaik, when the mice I've already used on this machine is connected to it, there's no more device added in the device manager. And under the mice and other pointing devices, I only see the touchpad. But when i connect a mouse that has never been used on this computer, I see an unknown device under USB.

The problem has been fixed. It started for no reason and now been fixed for no reason.

I may have found an answer to the problem in the case of a usb mouse with cord which emits light but does not work/ is not detected by the system.

1. take the usb plug of the mouse.
2. on the side where the metal piece-that looks like a puzzle- meets, you have two holes. push slightly on the support of the strips of metal through those holes with a round stick so that this support is slightly elevated. (see picture).
3. plug in to check whether this solves the problem.

I don't actually know whether it's a problem of contact of the metal strips with the port, which i suspect it is, or internal, but this solved the problem for me.

Worked for me!

Thanks Paul. The 'squishing the plug' trick worked! I couldn't do it with my fingers but a pair of needle-nosed pliers compressed the metallic rectangle enough so that it is a very tight fit to the USB port now.

I could tell it was a bad connection because the laser light on the mouse would flicker on and off whenever I moved the mouse. Now it stays on constantly, so it is definitely an electrical connection issue. I bet a little fine sandpaper on the leads would remove any oxidation on the plug as well, though I haven't tried that since it's working without it.

The problem has been fixed. It started for no reason and now been fixed for no reason.

reason: electrostatic . static electricity between your body and your wired mouse , battery do the rest, by keeping the negative charge (electrons) in usb controller which kills data signals

press and hold the laptop power button for 30 seconds. discharge and free the controler.

Thanks Paul this worked for me today. I thought my MS Optical 4000 had died like my Logitech MX1000 but following your suggestion with the USB receiver worked. Thanks again mate!

Thanks to marsmimar and bheddi, for point the electrostatic on my laptop. Check with a measure device for it and was accumulated full of static electricity, maybe because of the not so cold winter in Brazil but maybe also cause de dry air we have during the winter here.

mouse wont work laptop win 7

I solved why my mouse wouldnt work.
I took out the battery for 1 minute.
That didnt work.
I pressed the F5 or F6 key along with the FN , and it worked.
Sometimes we clean the computer and accidentally kit something we shouldn't.
