Latest NVIDIA ForceWare Video Drivers Windows 7

Aren't the clocks just slowing down to consume less power and resources when it's really not needed? I'd assume this is a power saving feature...like Intel SpeedStep.

This has only started to happen with the 190 drivers, the clocks are not meant to jump about like they are when you you are not doing anything graphics intensive, I'll say it again, this is only a problem with the 190 drivers.

Thanks, yes pp it could well be some power conservation measure, hope so anyway. Mr GRim. That's reassuring if they are good in games. I notice yours are peaking at quite a bit higher than the settings. Mine are too but nowhere near as much(?)
Anyone know how to get the GPU temp readout back?

Cheers, J

You can only monitor 4 things at a time so you will have to go to options and on the monitor tab you can select the 4 you want to display.

No idea why you would loose the option. I can see it was there in one of the screens you posted, very weird.

Yeah. Well spotted. So I had GPU temp with 190.38 and it disappeared with 190.40.
That is weird. I'm a bit spooked about these drivers-crazy clocks and disappearing functions:confused:

Anyone else using these having similar issues?

Try rebooting a few times. I lost the temp monitor option as well and at first blamed it on the Beta 190.38's since it did not happen when I ws using the WHQLs. Although I knew the only real difference should be the WHQL stamp. Anyway I fllip-flopped between the 185.85's and 190.38's a few times. Then I lost temp monitoring again this time using the 190.38 WHQL's. Well to my surprise temp monitoring option came back after I rebooted once or twice.

As you know Nvidia did away with the forced reboot at the end of the driver install in the 186.14 and 190.38 driver sets so I must not have rebooted the first time I tried the Betas and also during one of the WHQL installs. Perhaps Nvidia should have let the forced reboot in place.

If the reboot doesn't work you may just wish to exit EVGA Precison Tuner, restart is then hit the Reset All button on the right ...

Thanks HonestJohn. I just checked and you are right, the temp monitor is back (190.40)
Still, odd and it must be these 190 drivers. It's never happened before.
My clocks are still jumping from about half to full speed all the time. Are you getting that as well? John:)

I reverted back to 185.85's which were a great driver set for me. I'm not to comfortable using these new ones yet. It's probably been mentioned but in the 190's they added a new "Power Management Mode" under Manage 3D Settings and you can set it for Performance or Adaptive I believe. It seems logical that this may me what's causing a few to have issues. I think I'll wait for the next Beta downloadable from Nvidia directly or the next WHQL set before trying again.

the 190.xx drivers are great gamers.......;), i get great frames with them on ALL games, but this 2D down-clock issue is really annoying.

here's my clocks as of now with the 190.40 drivers...

ppol.JPG

the GPU is pretty hot.. at least 8-10c hotter than the 185 drivers, while idle.

they should bring out a new revision soon, i'll hold out till then

Hi Skunk. Is that 50c after gaming or just at idle? Just looked at mine, I've been watching TV on my pc, and it's sitting at 44c. This hasn't really changed from the 185 drivers.
Still haven't had a gaming session. Just knackered tonight. Hope it isn't swine flu.

Cheers,J

Just thought, the clocks look like a medical emergency drama:D

Yes it does, they have changed the slider scale for it however. The default is now 50% and you adjust it up or down from there. As you know in the past it started at "0".

Just found another problem with the new Beta driver, I have not been gaming and I was just reading the thread and was wondering about the power management, anyway I didn't find any problem with that but I did notice my GPU temp was 25c higher then usual so I checked precision and I always have the fan set on Auto and it sits on 40% on idle, only now for some reason it was not going at all so I manually set it back to 40% and temps dropped again from 74c t0 50c.

So if anyone is using 190.40 Beta drivers, check your temps and your fan speed, I think I will go back to using 190.38 WHQL drivers for now and hopefully that will fix the problem.

Also, as long as I have your attention, do you know why my Sig is not showing up? It's under 600x100 and 45k. Do you have to have a certain number of posts? Thanks for your time.
