Hello
Can someone please help a person who does not know much about computers.
My desktop icons change the size from small to medium after any numbers of restarts.
They were small before and I would like them to stay that size.
Can somone help how to lock the size or why they change the size all the time.
Thank you

Sounds like the user profile may be corrupt.,
Following suggestions of Ztruker you may try these as well :ar:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
* Requires reboot if integrity violations are found.
Then :ar: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html
* Requires a reboot as well.

If these do not work, suggest on creating a new user profile and see if the issue persists.

I did, looks like my profile might be corrupted. On top of this I've been getting messages from Avg about threat-"Trojan Droppper". I tried Malwarebytes removal wont help, went to system restore. Dont see any check point. Icons keep changing the size any time i reboot.
Looks like my best option might be going back to factory setting??
Any other ideas??
thanks

Yes, in that case a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html or a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html would be good.

Yes, you could do that, or you could do a clean install which doesn't have the bloatware that the pc had when you first powered it on. a factory restore will bring all of that back. Lets try a factory restore first and if that doesn't work, we can do a clean install. Do you know how to do a factory restore? If not, you can give me the brand and model of tyour pc and I can tell you how to do a factory restore.

marbet,
to advise about a factory restore, then we must have your system specs. I surprised that these were not already requested.

Carry out the following:

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.
==========================================
==========================================

After that,
then if you would like to try to avoid a reinstall or fresh install, do let me know.

If you decide that you want to do a factory restore, then I do recommend, as has been suggested, than you perform a clean install rather than a factory restore.

If you would rather make a clean install, than let us know and we can advise accordingly.
==============
thanks,
karl

High level:

Factory restore puts the computer back to exactly like it was the day you purchased it, including all the bloat-ware and foist-ware (can you tell I don't like all the junk manufacturers put into their computers?) that it came with.

Clean install installs just the operating system. No additional junk. Your computer will run faster, but it will not have some applications you may want, so you need to look at what you use and see if it's important to you or not and if it came with the computer or you added it later on.

This is my simple solution, found after a year of trying suggestions from various forums:

- Go to c:\Users\[account]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat
- Move the UsrClass.dat to a backup folder (I used "My Documents")
- arrange your icons, restart and let the system create a new file

thanks to hypercube HTML Code:
Windows 7 Help Forums - View Profile: hypercube
for original suggestion. I screwed up his instructions and found the above solution
