Can any body help please! - No Display

Hi I have just installed Windows 7 RTM and I cannot get any sort of display what so ever - The only way I can get a picture in in safe mode - My graphics card is a ATI Raedon X550 -

I have tried using Driver max to see if my driver is out dated but the report I got say`s it`s the latest - I have also tried the ATI website and there latest drivers but I get the error `failed to load driver detection` , At the moment im in safe mode! Please can any one help :shock:

Hi mike

So whats the status? I would go to ati and grab the correct friver for your vid card. then boot into safe mode and intstall it, and reboot. Might help if we knew your system specs.

Mike could you tell me abt your system, OS (32 or 64) monitor, etc. You using hdmi, or std cable?

Ken im using a 32 bit OS - The graphics card is a ATI Radeon X550 256mb - via VGA , @ ickymay - Thank also for the help - With regards to the devices on my mother board I guess they are installed as device manager says theres no conflict - really appreciate the help guys . Mike

Since your display works in safe mode, your monitor and cable are ok. It has to be a driver problem. what rev is the driver?

Thank you for the help Ken - With regards to `what rev` is the driver? sorry but I do not understand that - I have tried the latest drivers i.e. from ATI and I got`cannot load driver checker`so still no avail. - really appriciate the help . Mike

when you right lick the driver (exe?) and goto properties does it tell you what version it is? Sometimes installing a driver from exe file doesnt work ( my intel 945 driver is one) I had to get a zip'ed driver, unzip it, goto the dev mgr, and update driver from there by point the dev mgr to the folder where the inf file is located. I doubt thats going to work but I know how frustrating these can be.

Thaks for the help Zigzag the installed driver is Radeon X550 - Microsoft Corporation WDDM - And the driver version is 8.56.1.15 - Driver date is 24/04/2009 - From what that says I have the correct driver installed could it be sumthing else that im missing i.e. another driver ? Thanks again for the help

In checking amd/ati I found the newest vista drivers are 9.3.1, and they have win 7 drivers for the 700 (not 550). Have you tried the newest driver?

I think you are using a CRT monitor probably 15" inch.

Is that right??

37" Inch Samsung LCD - I`ve never had any problems with any computers on this tv before - Thank you for the help

I have no idea abt "detection driver" but alot of things arent loaded in safe mode. Is there any way you can boot into win 7 normally? You could use msconfig to diagnose/test what you can load at start up. Do you knwo how to use msconfig?

I friend of mine was also facing the same problem.

Disable the graphics card from Device manager while you are in safe mode.
Then you may be able to open it in normal mode but no aero.



You can also try installing vista graphics driver.

just try this although you wont get Aero.
