Solved P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 vs Anyother motherboard

I have a P8Z68 Deluxe V1. I don't know if this Gen 1 and what the current Gen 3 difference is - anybody know?

Basically, when the Intel chipset present on the first SandyBridge/Socket 1155 mobo's was released, it contained a bug where it was possible for the SATA ports present on the board to fail.

Because of the bug, they were recalled and the vendors released new revisioned mobo's with 'Gen3' added, as in they no longer had the bug.

I think that was for the P67 chipset not the Z68.

I think it was revision B3 first, then Gen 3. B3 was the revision that fixed the sata port problem. Gen 3 was Ivy Bridge capable.

You are confusing me, to be honest. If you built the PC yourself, then how would you have a system warranty? When I say "build it yourself", I mean not through a store. I mean buy all the parts yourself and assemble it.

Now, if we skip past that confusion, have you tried going through Asus directly to see if they can replace the board?

Nope i have not contacted asus my self and part about the confusion is like this.. I bought all the parts from this company called Inet then I took all the parts to where i live "my home" and assembled it. Now how this works or what they told me about how it goes around is that... when i turn my computer in to the technician he just check whats wrong with the computer and give me advice about how much it will cost to fix it , which part that was broken and if the warranty cover the damage that has been done.
In my case only the motherboard was damaged and warranty on the motherboard it self was going to cover it. BUT with my bad luck the technician guy or the so called retailer dont have these cards any more and cannot order it or turn in the part for some wierd reason. So now he said to me ok since we cant give you a new motherboard that is the same model we can give you this motherboard "gigabyte motherboard that was earlier mentioned" but as i typed i wanted to see what the guy was giving compared to what ive payed for. To end this quick and short he was trying to give me a card worth alot less then mine imo. And he gave me a choice to pick any z68card that is equivalent

Are you saying the P8Z68 Deluxe V.1 had a sata problem? If so I'll check it out again.

It actually raises more questions for me, but none are really relavant. If you built the system yourself, then you shouldn't have to bring it anywhere else, especially if you are going to have to pay for their services.

If I buy all the parts for a computer from Newegg.com for example, if there's an issue with hardware, I will first see if Newegg will swap the part. If not, or if they tried something strange, I'd go right to the manufacturer of the part, in this case, Asus.

What I was getting at is this. If you chose parts for a computer, and had some system builder, like Falcon Northwest, build the system for you, then you may have a warranty with them to cover the system. They would be your first contact. If you built the system yourself, then you are the system builder, so go to Asus directly.

Yes you got it right they are like a parts vendor.. though if i had let them build the computer for me with the pieces i picked for some amount of money.. then they wouldve given me 2 years warranty from their side too. So since i built the computer my self those 2 warranty does not include me. It is the card (asus) warranty that will cover it.
Before the check i asked them about the warranty and such. They said to me you dont need to contact the company (in this case asus), we will do it all for you and if the warranty will cover it we will contact company and switch the card for you.
That is why it is even confusing me to hell... i asked them to only just check which part of the computer was broken since i dont have the parts here to check my self. So i blindly trusted them as said great. Now i thought for my self that i dont have to give them the pc to check whats wrong and then them sending it back to me and i send it back broken part to asus "or any other company"... it would feel like long process for me. Anyways...

After their check they saw motherboard was broken.

So now they tell me that warranty covers it(Asus one i guess since i was not included in those 2 year they give)... and want to switch the motherboard BUT they dont have any asus z68 cards anymore.. so they given me the choice of picking a card from a different company equivalent to the one i had and it has to be a "z68 card". And i have to pick from their homepage which imo they have none z68 card that is equivalent to the asus p8z68-deluxe gen 3.
And about sending it to asus which i even asked why not just do that and get a new card back to give me... their answer was "since they dont have same board anymore (or any other z68 asus cards) and they dont know if they ever going to order them again... then they cannot send it to asus and get a new card back or even order it just for covering the warranty". Which still dont give me any answer why they just dont send the card to asus IF the warranty covers it...

I think that's your answer. I'm not sure what you mean by card...unless you are referring to the motherboard. However, if you've spoken to Asus and they seem willing to handle the return, I'd just go that route. Asus has a very good reputation. You could get your computer back, and since you built it in the first place, you'll be perfectly capable of removing the motherboard and sending that back to Asus.

I would recommend this method as well, if you feel the local company was trying to trick you or talk you into something of lesser quality/performance than you had.

Ok i've typing back and forth with them. Now they agree to switch my motherboard to the z77 and they will test run it to see if everything is ok and whatever they provide with their service.
But when i asked what happens to the box and the other parts? They said when i send my old box i will get the box and all the other parts except the cd..... ? Does this usually happen when they switch motherboard through warranty?

ah well now the computer is in my hands.. they switched graphic card, processor and ssd.
Don't know if it was a good switch...

I am happy.. but when i open the chassi.. guy had left a lose screw and the processor case in the chassi and which was typed on the processor case Inventarie - Service
Make me think if it is all ok, just gonna try find a place to get a windows 7 professional Iso (since i lost my dvd ) so i can try a clean install and test it all my self.
