Cute thing I saw for the first time today

Sure, the squirrels like to hang out in our backyard ever since they found out we put out bird seed, corn and peanuts and whatnot (although lately we've been cutting back and putting out only sunflower seeds and nothing else).

But today I saw a squirrel waltz on by our back patio with a green tomato that he had plucked from my mom's plants. Not huge of course, but not tiny either. Then he climbs up a tree and starts to "peel" it and nibble away at it. Too funny!

This is the first year I have seen squeirrels fighting over mushrooms.

True they're not cheap, we buy them for the birds as well as seed, fat balls and Niger seed. I can't remember exactly how much they are but it's over £1 a kilo and that's from a farmers supply company which is cheaper than buying from the shops or even the supermarkets.

Seems like my dad stopped buying the peanuts as of late. We've always been going to this supply store and buying stuff like that in bulk, bird seed and corn and all of that, but right now we're just putting out sunflower seeds. We've been feeding the birds for years and putting out fresh water in the summer. Just makes us feel good to help them out a little bit.

Lots of "common" birds like sparrows and doves come by, but then we've got some real pretty ones too, like cardinals, blue jays, finches, cow birds, nuthatches, etc. The occasional woodpecker (actually, haven't seen him lately).
