How do I get my shortcut icons back after failed defragmentation

Hello. Today, while I was defragmenting my Computer, it shut down itself because I accidentaly unpluged the battery.

When I turned it back on, some of my shortcuts' icons started to miss. (Example on attachments.)

I already tried the IconCache thingy, but they are still missing.

Can you help me and give me other solutions?

You might try a System Restore and see what that does for you. Open your Start Menu and type System Restore. Pick a date just before the problem happened. The thing is that... I don't have ANY restore points before this happened.

You could also try reinstalling skype and office..(or repair office)

It's possible that the interrupted defrag caused file corruption -
see if this helps.....



Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
type in the Search box

CMD.EXE

right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /F
and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size
of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally
(possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Post an MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

The defrag may have borked the programs whose shortcuts are bad. For the start menu, try removing from the Start menu by right clicking the affected ones and Unpin from Start Menu. Then go to All programs, scroll to the ones you just removed and right click and Pin to start Menu.

Otherwise I suspect you'll need to reinstall those programs. Always make sure a defrag is not interrupted, place a big note on the computer.

Start/All programs, if the programs are there just right click on them and go to Send To and select Desktop (create shortcut).
