Different BSoDs, mostly caused by ntoskrnl.exe

Hi all,

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEE2M1E that Bluescreens on every use.

MY SYSTEM SPECS
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit SP1
BIOS: InsydeH20 BIOS (Version R0210Z5)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 SDRAM
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II P320 Dual Core @2.1GHZ
HDD: Toshiba 500 GB SATA HDD
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4200 Series

Other Problems

When I switch on the computer, I do not hear the fan spin.
Sometimes my speakers do not work.
Always Fails updates.

I will not have the dump files until Saturday 18th of August, because I am away from the computer.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Run driver verifier to determinate what driver this is, under these conditions-

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise.
Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature) - and create a System Repair Disc (Win7) if you don't have a full installation DVD.
You can do this by going to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc (don't forget to test the disc to make sure it works).

For Vista, you can download the repair discs from different websites. If unable to locate them, shoot me a PM and I'll point you to them.
For Win8, BSOD's are different - and we'll have to adjust how we do this with them.

Also, to ensure that you can recover, here's another couple of additional steps:
- Get to the Safe Mode menu (rapidly tap F8 just before the Windows splash screen comes up). Scroll down to and select "Disable automatic restart on System Failure"
- Get the RED information from this picture (in particular we will need the name of the file that the error occurred in):

Then, here's the procedure to run Driver Verifier:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "IRP Logging", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next" ("Special Pool" may be able to be used depending on amount of RAM and errors being seen. In situations with small amounts of RAM, DO NOT select it),
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and locate the memory dump file. If present, turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page. Then, zip up the memory dump file(s) and upload them with your next post. If no dump files were generated, post back for further suggestions.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

Delete these registry keys to stop Driver Verifier from loading (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel

You can use Fn + F2 to mute the speaker.

Now listen carefully for fan noise.
Put your hand by the vent areas Do you feel any air?

I want you to install SPECCY and keep an eye on your temps, plus report in your next post the temps shown for cpu and graphics.

Select individually "all" drivers except the Microsoft ones. There's no such option called "all", but just select everything except Microsofts'.

DriverVerifer will not mess up your computer.

After we get you running again, don't let me forget about the no win 7 dvd problem and I'll give you a couple of options there.

If your system hangs and you seem to be hopelessly stuck when using Verifier then boot into safe mode, go to a command prompt and type:
Verifier /reset

temp is ok, just leave speccy running (you can minimize speccy to get it out of the way) and every once in awhile check the temp.

Well, a possible source of your problem is actually malware. Now the cure is not instanteous but is very thorough and has no peer. Carry out this procedure will probably take 2-3 hours on your laptop

Download Windows Defender Offline (about 785 kB)
You will have the choice of downloading the 32bit version (x86) or the 64 bit version (x64).
The link will help you determine whether you are running a 32 bit version or 64 bit version of Windows

Since the malware database is sometimes updated several times in a day, always update before running.

Bootup your computer from the USB stick
Windows Defender Offline will automatically perform a quick scan.
After the quick scan finishes, Choose Full Scan
Select all of your drives

The initial, full scan can easily take several hours, but

As you said, I have to update Win 7 to use Windows Defender Offline.
After switching on the laptop after installing an update, on the logon screen, the computer says: Preparing to configure Windows. After a while, it says it has failed to configure Windows and reboots. After splash screen on reboot, I get a BSoD. It is either 0x1E or 0x7E. Unfortunately the computer always hangs (freezes) before saving the memory dump.
