Hey guys,
First of all, I am sorry if this is the wrong place to start this thread, since i am new. :D
So, to the problem. The past few days my computer has been giving me many errors. The way it started were lag spikes. I had opened word to write a bit, and it started lagging alot. My computer has always been fast, and although it could sometimes slightly slow down, it was never this bad. I mean, it was slower than my old laptop with 1gb of ram. I saved and closed word, and went to task manager to troubleshoot if there were problems. All normal. I closed task manager, and went to the start menu to shut down, just in time to get a Bsod. Yes I would love to share any dump files, however i now barely can access it (I just managed to run cmd for a bit) since windows explorer keeps crashing. Ok, so the only thing i know about the bsod is that it gave me the "KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR", giving the the error code 0x000007e(i think). Also what i noticed was that the error when explorer.exe crashes it gives me the InPage error too. A bit of Google searching easily revealed that the INPAGE ERROR is often related to hard drive problems.
Then, the next day, when i restarted the computer it went to chkdsk, (i never scheduled it) and scanned. What caught my eye was that it said "Recovering Orphaned File ### in directory ###, and it said there was not enough space on the drive" (where ### is was a random number that meant absolutely nothing to me) in some points. So the probability that i have a defective drive was getting higher.
I decided i needed to do a virus check, but the result was a simple advertising software, which told nothing of the story, so i knew this wasn't a virus cause.
I started up my computer, and, although explorer.exe kept crashing literally every 5 seconds, i managed to open up cmd prompt, and typed in "chkdsk /r /f' for a deeper scan. I restarted the system and let it run for a rough 4,5 hours. It founds many bad cluster and apparently "replaced" them. It found bad cluster everywhere on my drive, from files in system32 to my minecraft worlds!
Now, I have just started another scan (it is still running) and it pointed out those exact same bad cluster and said it was replacing them.

So the big question is: Is my drive failing? Or is it just windows which is screwed up?

I am really hoping to get over this problem as soon as possible, because, even though i have this laptop i used to write this, my desktop computer is important too.

As for the memory dump files and chkdsk logs, they should be on my computer, and ill post them as soon as chkdsk finishes. Thanks guys for all the support!:p

Darn it. chkdsk finally finished with the same bad clusters as the previous chkdsk that i ran the day before. I was about to retrieve the logs to post it here and got another bsod,

This is what it said on the bsod(I have made the text blue to distinguish it):
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

A process or thread crucial to the system has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

Now, as you can see the crash dump actually failed (this is the first time this ever happened) so i cannot retrieve the dump.

Sniffle sniffle
I think this is the end of my hard disk drive. I have a feeling its done, its failed. The bios cannot find the disk.
I have lost all the data on it i guess. The disk is gone for good at last.

Ok, i have put the hard in a external case and tried opening it on my laptop.
It told me to format it (of course i didn't since my goal here is to recover those files) and then it told me:
I:/ is not accessible.
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

WTF?!?! What does that mean?

Yes. I do understand that. However, before i get a new one, is there ANY way i can recover at least SOME of the data?

Plug the HD back in internally to run HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan. If it will repair run also a full Disk Check on all partitions.

This may allow you to copy out the data, or you can see if it's even viewable using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or Paragon rescue disk; change drive letter; recover data.

Thanks man! Currently, I was testing the drive with various ntfs recovery softwares, incase the problem could be a corruption in the file system. After these tests, I will try the software you gave me. Though the only problem is that I do have dvds but i dont have a dvd drive in the computer that i want to test.I guess I'll try booting from my windows usb. ;)

Try repairing the HD using the methods I gave you, to see if data can be seen and rescued.

You skipped to data Recovery which is the third and last step.

Keep us posted.

Ok, I put the disk into the computer, but I can't find a way to boot and run the diagnostics from the USB stick. I'm sure its formatted properly because its what I used to install windows on our family computer a few months ago... Any help with that?

Meanwhile I'll be looking for some other methods! ;)

Ok, I decided I would run the software from Western Digital (thats my hard disk company) but instead of booting from it, I will run a test on my laptop with my hard disk attached in my external case. Yes, I know its not the best alternative, but with time slowly passing its the best thing I can do for now. If I manage to find a way, I will try to run it on my other computer (better choice because it is common that I get bsods on my laptop when doing a scan on the failed drive.)

However, for now I will try to run a scan on my laptop.

The scans only run on internal HD's.
You can run Western Digital lifeguard from stick using Ultimate boot CD:

Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) from a USB flash drive | USB Pen Drive Linux

It's listed there as DLG 5. Run the extended scan.

I ran the lifeguard extended scan on the hdd (as external drive, though) however it said it had too many bad sectors and aborted the scan. Well, I guess my hard disk data is unrecoverable, and it's just a waste of time, so I started a full write 0s erase on the hard disk. (still external). Thanks for the link, I will try that if it fails to write 0s to the disk.

Yes I know I will lose my data, but there's no more solution, and now my top priority has moved on to see what the actual cause of the damage is. Thanks for the support!! ;)

P.S. If the drive is not recoverable in any way, i'm still happy cuz I can see the insides!!! :D
