tried it on BF3, Skyrim and Diablo3
all run superbly..

I need to get Battlefield 3 But im stuck ok Darksiders 2 and CF kills it lol

Drivers seem decent and perform well.Also my problem with flash in firefox seems to be gone now also and it actually updated correctly this time instead of saying a older version like some other drivers have done in the past. Skyrim runs really good with all settings maxed on my card with these drivers.

Hello Landon,

Since you current version is so much older than the new 12.8 version, I would recommend to uninstall the old version first, then clean install the new one.

Just in passing, I mention again that these new Catalyst releases are only for hardware of HD5xxx and newer.

I was "advised" by Windows Update that my 12.3 could be upgraded to 12.8, but when taking the "ok" path I was simply delivered to the ATI driver download site to specify my hardware first... which on this machine is an HD4850. Turns out the driver installer then configured for download is the 12.6 "legacy" driver, not the current 12.8.

Well, even after downloading this 12.6 legacy driver pacakge and trying to install it, the install FAILS TO INSTALL THE DRIVER. It may install updated versions of CCC and the ATI Install Manager (big deal!!), but the newer driver itself fails to install. Obviously the INF doesn't name the HD4850 in its list of supported hardware.

Furthermore, going back even to try 12.4, that one fails to install the driver as well.

It's only going back to 12.3 where the driver install succeeds... and that's exactly where I am now with my HD4850, and apparently where I'll forever after be with my HD4850.

In other words, though 12.6 was supposed to be the cutoff version for all HD4xxx hardware and older, that doesn't appear to really be true. It could be even earlier, as 12.3 appears to be with my HD4850.

For sure 12.8 and newer drivers will only support hardware HD5xxx and newer, apparently.

I believe AMD stated that new drivers would be for HD5xxx and above and there was no need to keep updating drivers for older hardware except for fixes as they were maxed out with current drivers. That way they don't have to make the new drivers backward compatible to older hardware. They will update drivers for older hardware on a need to basis.

Some people have them working smoothly ,I'm also have hope they will fix the driver crash issue while web browsing only FF does it goes Black etc etc......

What might happen, is the need to reverse to a version 11.x and then step by step go to version 12.6. that's what i did and everything is running smooth now.

Eh i don't do beta drivers anymore they give me to many issues last beta i did was 12.6. My official 12.8 drivers are having no issues what so ever,il'l just wait for official 12.9 drivers that work correctly.

Well I've never had any problems like this with any older ATI driver over the past 10 years, including the past 3 years with Win7.

It's obvious that ATI simply has stopped letting the drivers install for the HD4850 with higher than 12.3 under Win7 x64, or so it would seem. Vista may be different, apparently, but I couldn't confirm.

Anyway it's not a big deal. I'm not a gamer, and 12.3 works perfectly fine on that machine with its one 24" 1920x1200 LCD monitor. I'll just leave it that way. I certainly don't have a desire to step-by-step go from 11.12 or something up to 12.6, just to see if it can be done.

My previous machine ( Windows 7 x64) had that the HD4830 which is the same as the HD4850 for desktop.

I'd been stopped like you at one moment. The only way to make it, was that way.

Some are telling the same on some graphics forums. Better go backward to previous then reinstall.

But if you not in urge, i can understand, you not hurrying!

Is there any place I could still find the older versions of the drivers/installation packages? I have an ATI Radeon HD 4250 integrated on my mobo, and it has been being terribly tempermental with cutting straight to the latest drivers (12-6 &/or 12-8). I have up to version 11-6 installed so far, but from what everyone seems to be saying here, I should only go up to 12-3. My backup collection is missing the inbetweens. =/

Incidentally, do you know how when you right-click on the desktop background, there should be a link right on top of the context menu for Catalyst Control Center? That's disappeared for me. CCC is installed again and opens and runs fine (finally), but no link. Any clue as to why that is?
Edit: I found the old posts about this. I'll look into it once I get the drivers fully updated if it has not resolved itself by then.
