I have a Toshiba A300 that I upgraded from Vista 32-bit system to Windows 7 64-bit over a year ago. I've had a few BSOD's here & there but nothing all the time til recently. Everything works fine except when the computer tries to go to sleep. It will sit there for 10 minutes until it times out and then the BSOD will appear and it will shut down. I have formatted my hard drive and reinstalled vista on my computer several times and then upgraded to windows 7 each time adding all the components one at a time trying to narrow down which one is screwing everything up. When I first install vista and upgrade to windows 7 the sleep function works fine but after I install all my software it glitches. I have tried installing the software and updates one at a time to figure out what it wrong but it seems that it happens at different times each time so I have been unable to figure out what is the problem. I have attached my dump files. Help is much needed and appreciated.

Welcome your problem seems to be an hp printer driver
usbscan.sys
First make a full anti virus scan
Download and make a full scan with malwarebytes.
Sometimes virus take names of drivers in an attempt to stay hidden
If negative,
Go to the hp site and update driver.

I just completed a full scan with Bitdefender 2013 and Malware Bytes. Nothing showed up. I don't have an hp printer. I have a canon. I had already suspected my printer driver and the last time I installed windows 7 on my computer I did not use the disc that came with my printer. I went to Canon's website and downloaded the newest windows 7 64-bit driver and the problem still occurred. Is there another way to get rid of the virus? Or other stuff I need to try? Thanks for the help.

Almost forgot
That driver still is the cause HP or not.
We should try to get rid of it
Go to the driver and change, the .sys to .old
If you have problems we can set it back.

My printer is hooked up to my wireless router. I deleted the windows.old so I just uninstalled the driver through control panel. The printer still works though but now my computer freezes up occasionally and will not time out or do anything. I have to turn it off and back on. The BSOD when entering sleep still occurs. I have attached more files. Also, just FYI my webcam doesn't work (which i'm not really concerned about). I don't think the webcam problem and the BSOD are related just wanted to be sure. Thanks for all the help.

It comes up with this.

Its your scanner.
Make a system restore just in case. Then go to the driver and name it .bup instead of .sys.
You should get a new one on boot from Windows Updater.

How do I rename the driver? I went to device manager and found it, but the only thing I can do is uninstall it? I can't rename it.

You have to go to the c drive, windows, system 32. But if you make a system restore, easier just to uninstall.

I renamed it, restarted, check to see if it was in the sys 32 folder and it wasn't. Performed windows update which all I had was a fingerprint utility driver update that made my fingerprint scanner stop working so I'm going to restore windows back before that. My printer still reports to be online wirelessly but I haven't actually checked it and the scanner part out yet. I'm in med school and have a test tomorrow so I won't try anything else til late tomorrow morning after this test is over.

On another note, I have directions on how to restore my computer to out of box state with vista 32-bit system (I have a factory CD) and I also have directions on how to perform a clean install of windows 7 64-bit (I have it on CD as well its not an "upgrade version"). I have used these directions each time which call for me to uninstall certain software before upgrading and to use Toshiba Software Assistant to get the rest of what I need. Each time though I end up with the same problems, my webcam never works and when my monitor gets in a certain spot it triggers the USB connection and my computer tries to download a driver but it ever does (You can hear the sound like you're unplugging and plugging back in a flash drive periodically until you move the monitor out of that position). My monitor never has any trouble though so I'm unsure about the cause of that. I feel like there is something I'm leaving out each time that I should be doing. All this is to say, do you have "correct" directions on what I should do if I want to just go back to the out of box state and then upgrade to windows 7 (I plan to not install my printer driver) and have my webcam and monitor problem corrected. I assume its in the driver for my webcam but I downloaded the latest version from Toshiba and it didn't fix it. So I can only assume I've screwed something up along the way with formatting my hard drive and reinstalling vista and 7 so much.

Also, I assume I should be using the clean install directions. If not please let me know what to use. I have also attached the directions I have been using.

Just so we're on the same page you're saying I should just boot from the windows 7 CD and format and forget the out of box recovery CD. Then, do I have to manually install my Toshiba drivers that are on the recovery CD? I don't think the Toshiba Software Assistant gets everything that I need does it?. I though it just got what was left to get after the recovery CD was installed first. I also have 4 GB of ram installed on this computer. Is there a way to figure out if my mother-board is "old" and I need to take out 2 GB before installing windows 7 like it states I might need to do on the clean install directions? Thanks for all the help!

The clean install is the best. When you install make sure that you are on the internet, most drivers will be installed. We can go to the Toshiba web site and find them.
Id leave the ram the way it is. We can always go back if there are problems.

In addition you can back up your drivers if you wish.
They offer the free test package or a
free software with less features. All you need is to back up go with free.
Driver update - Use DriverMax to update all your Windows PC drivers

Thanks for all the help!! I really appreciate it. I have been fighting this for over a month. I thought I could figure out myself just by reading forums, but that hasn't happened. I really need this to get resolved so I can focus on med school. I plan to try everything tomorrow after the test and see what happens. Thanks again!!

I just completed formatting the hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows 7. I have not activated it or updated any Windows updates. What are the order of steps I need to do next? Do I need to use the Toshiba software assistant installer? The reason I asked that is because I couple of the times I have used it before it would hang up and not completely install everything and I didn't know what was causing that problem. Thanks

There is really not much more to do:
Install all the updates, be sure to include SP1
Install all your favorite software
Test and make sure you are satisfied.
Then validiate with the product key.
You want to have everything just so before you activate so that you will not have to activate a second time. You have 30 days to activate.

Now here is my speech for new computer owners, most apply to you so read and enjoy

As soon as you get home with your computer:

Dont install the antivirus software that pops up with instuctions to install.
Should be done at the end and this software, although probably free for a while,
will cost money down the road and is probably not the best.

Windows updates should be done immediately as you are vulnerable to problems
until updated; be sure to include office updates.

Adobe reader should be updated, the most recent version is a sandbox version which
reduces virus vulnerablity to your PDF files.

This is also the opportunity to download Adobe Flash Player

Download an alertative browser; ie FF or Chrome etc. In the event of problems with IE.

Remove any unwanted program bloat. They will slow up your computer and probably
cost money in the future.

Download your antivirus; Microsoft Security Essentials is suggested.

Make your recovery disc.

Now enjoy the internet.

To maintain your computer

10 Tips on How to Properly Maintain Your Computer
ignore, reg cleaners.

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

Download and use PSI, to to be sure that all of your software is up to date

If you follow these instructions, you will be trouble free for a long time to come.

Be sure to back up your hard drive about once a month (varies by user) and to keeep system restore points up to date.

What do you think about the Canon printer driver? Should I just plug it in the printer into the computer and let it find the driver itself? Or do I need to not use it at all? I have a printer hooked up to an Asus router if that makes a difference about trying to find a way to make it work.

I will tell you what I would do
I would use the computer without the printer. After you are certain that there are no more BSODs make an image and then install the printer and let the computer find the correct driver. If you begin to get BSODs, go to the website and install a new driver. Then experiment, try anything that you like.
If the BSODs continue remove the driver. If you still get BSODs, use your image that will bring you back to good times

Make and Image: What you and everyother user should do when you are happy with your performace, make an image with Macrium, and back it up once a month. Then no matter what your problem in 15 minutes you are back to where you started pre-problem.
