Solved {HOW TO Question} How to test your Graphic Card ?

Hello SF members!

Now I'm back from long time of inactive status :D And.... I have questions! :D

I want to test my Graphic Card, to see temperatures when GPU use max. resources (full load, torture test, etc.)

Which program to use for this (PCMark, etc.) ?
My Graphic Card is ATi Radeon HD 5670 , DX11...

What is temperature where I need to stop that program to avoid overheating or broken GPU ?
Currently in normal use (SF Forums), temp. is 44-45C.

You should stop the tests if you see any graphical artefacts/glitches on the screen. Your card should be able to operate comfortably up to 77 degrees.

Remember though that you are stressing the hardware, so there is an element of risk - the onus is on you to ensure to stop the tests if the card displays graphical artefacts, or exceeds quoted temperature.

Other tests you can use are Ungine Heaven 3.0 and Mark 3D 11. Mark 3D is a 30 day trial. As for the max temp, see if your manufacturer's web site gives that Info. I wouldn't go much higher than Golden's recommendation. Many manufacturers provide a program with the card that will allow you to set a fan profile defined by you. A more aggressive fan profile will help with temps. If your card does not come with one you can use MSI Afterburner. It is primarily an overclocking program but will allow you the set a user defined fan profile without overclocking the card.

That will help me... I will try with Mark 3D, that is popular, and I think it's not bad.

With my graphic card I got Catalyst Control Center, where I can overclock graphic and change fan speeds.

Default setting was 50%. I set it to 70%.
Before I did it temp was 52 degrees (on 50%). On 70% is only 50 degrees. That is only 2 degrees for 20% :(
If I set fan speed to 100% - can that burn my fan on graphic or no ? What is pros and cons for setting fan speed to 100% ?

Maybe, maybe I will OC my graphic card. I will start with with 5MHz to 100MHz to try. That is why I need to test temperatures. If temp is higher I will upgrade my fans.

Hi,

The only con to running the fan on 100% I can think of, is that if you run it for an extended period of time it will be undergoing more wear & tear. I suppose, being a mechanical part, it could break after much use at 100%, but Steve will know more about that than me. If you have an "Auto Speed" setting, I would start with that.

The pro to running on 100% of course is that the fan will be keeping the card as cool as it possible can.
