So I have a HP Pavilion g6 (Model 1031TX) and currently Piriform's Speccy says that my CPU is at 150 degrees farenheit and the motherboard is 160,

Any ideas?

Is this your idle temperature? If it is, it is pretty warm, but if the CPU is being moderately tasked, 150 oF or 65.5 oC is normal. Your motherboard is on the warm side so I suggest you use a cooling pad to lower the temperatures especially for the motherboard.

BTW, I forgot to mention that your temps are a bit on the warm side but not definitely overheating.

yes it is my idle temp :(

But when i play games such as minecraft or tribes it shoots to about 90 C

Restarting it doesn't affect anything, it starts at a low 25C then gets to about 40-60 just by sitting there on idle...
but i'll consider the coolpad.

Could it be something like Linux?

Ever since I installed it it's been slowing the startup time

I don't think it's Linux since it has its own partition and it definitely is not involved in Windows boot and startup. You might want to scan your system for viruses and defrag HDD. 90 C is very hot and very close to the Tjunction max of 100 C (computer will throttle heavily or shut down abruply when this temp is reached). I strongly recommend to blow compressed air to the heatsink to remove dust and allow for more airflow. Also, use cooling pad to lower both CPU and motherboard temperatures. 65 C on idle is very warm, and most laptops with good ventilation have typical idle CPU temperatures of 40 - 55 C after 30 minutes since the laptop was powered on. I wouldn't be suprised if your games stutters occasionally while the CPU is at 90 C or more during gaming. In my opinion, the upper limit for safe CPU temperatures while gaming is 85 C.

I have a same problem a couple of days ago with my Sony Vaio. I solved the problem by dismantling the laptop, clean the dust inside, re-applying thermal paste to CPU and GPU. Now I've got 25c - 30c on idle and 50c - 60c while playing.

You might want to consider what theveterans suggested because Cooling pad helps lowering the temp of your lappy.

I did try dismantling then cleaning, but I didn't have compressed air so I wiped it with my jumper sleeve...

But yeah ill get a cooling pad when I can and possibly some new ram if that helps

Thanks for all the replies though, thorough and informative:D

My laptop is just a few days old, but when I check temp on speccy the cpu and motherboard temperature is 58C.

I'm not sure if something is wrong. :(

Per my quote, when the CPU is moderately tasked (e.g. playing flash/shockwave based browser games or facebook game apps where only 1 core/thread is being used) 65 oC is normal. My netbook with Celeron 877 @ 1.4 GHz (2 cores, w/out HT) and HD 2000 graphics reaches 65 - 70 C max when playing flash/facebook browser games. When converting videos or stress testing (all cores at 100% CPU), it reaches 80 - 83 C max. My motherboard temps according to speccy has not yet gone above 68 C at full load.

58 C at idle is maybe due to hot ambient temperatures (30 C or above) in the Philippines. In Southern California near LA, during summer my room temp is about 70 F or 21 C and my netbook idles at 40-50 C.

Guys I need help!

My CPU is at 90C when Idle!!
I can't and I don't want to think how much it goes when gaming!
And Motherboard the same!

Help! I know that removing the battery when you use the cable is a good solution, but it didnt work!

Now i am gonna buy a cooling pad.

And some compressed air to blow the dust from the fans and I will post back.

Please add your own ideas.

Everything was fine 55-60C when idle and 65-70 when gaming with games like BF3, but from the time I bought and played ArmA 3 Beta from steam, it has had these temperatures (90C both motherboard and CPU) FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKK THAT GAME. IT'S POOR OPTIMIZATION IS THE PROBLEM THAT FAKED MY Laptop. CanYouRunIt says i CAN play the game. Please ideas. See ya.

My E-MAIL: [email protected] if you want to PM me to my email. But you are welcome to post here too.
