Model: HP Pavillion PC Desktop Model #A1720N Product# RT641AA #ABA 1.8ghz
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Recently a friends husband screwed up their computer they just got by looking at tons of porn sites. Since they had no security at all, I'm sure you can imagine what was on the hard drive. After all the viruses and adware had their way with the PC, it took almost 5 minutes from boot to get to the desktop screen! lol. Anyways she asked me to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit into their HP Pavilion A1710N desktop because she has no clue how.

Since I have some skill at this I decided to try it. I deleted the Vista partition and wiped the hard drive clean. I then did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. It runs very good but it was obvious it needed ram (only has 1gb) if I wanted to get it to run excellent. Well while waiting for the 4gb of ram to get here that my friend ordered for it (got 4gb of DDR2 for 14$ :D), I have been looking for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit drivers & the factory software that came with this PC and am unable to find it or anything newer to use in it's place.

Normally after I do a clean install on someone's laptop or desktop I can go to the manufacturers website and download all the drivers and software that came on the computer along with the security software. When I go to HP's website for the HP Pavillion PC Desktop Model #A1720N Product# RT641AA #ABA and click in find drivers for Windows 7 64 bit, it says that they don't have any. I would usually just go and compare the current drivers to the Vista 64 bit drivers and install wich ever one is newest.

I didn't know that Windows 7 won't let you use Vista drivers unlike how XP will let you use Vista drivers. After the install was done, I let it update all the Windows 7 updates and then installed security, then Office 2010 and now I'm just wondering where I can get the most updated drivers and software.

Thanks for reading this over and helping in advance!! :p

Jason

No I haven't. I've never tried to install them that way before because I had no clue how. But that thread you left I glanced over it and I'll give it a try. Honestly all the current drivers I think Windows 7 found during automatic updates are working great. I was just worried about getting a new BIOS driver before I did some things on the BIOS. Her Pavilion still has the BIOS stuff set from the people she bought the PC from and I wanted to change some things like turn hyperthreading on ( don't know why it was off ) etc.

I don't know how HP configures their machines. The Dells at work always have hyperthreading turned off. Whether it's Dell or our IT department, I don't know.

Some software doesn't like hyperthreading. I always turn it on, as the most computationally intensive software that I use likes it very well.

Win 7 has tons of generic drivers that allow you to use most of the components right off the box (which is pretty cool). The issue is that they aren't that good if you want to use it as more than a internet-office machine.

I'd suggest to look for graphic card drivers (go to graphic card manufacturer site) as Win7 rarely if ever finds them (and are needed if you want to play a decent video or do some gaming on it), also wireless, bluetooth and cams are not running at 100% (if at all) without their proper driver.

EDIT: forgot Audio drivers. Those are needed and again rarely detected.

I was just worried about getting a new BIOS driver before I did some things on the BIOS.
Updating BIOS (drivers are stuff for the OS, BIOS does not care) is NOT and I repeat NOT recommended unless you have some kind of issues or you are a technician.
As if it goes wrong you have to take the whole damn thing apart and physically replace the BIOS chip (yes, desolder old one and solder in the new one, tons of fun) to bring it to life again. Had to do it for some foolish guys and ain't fun.
