My system specs are listed for my rig before I say anything that is what I am running ATM

Current video card has an HDMI and with space limitations been trying to get my 40" Toshiba to work as a monitor. I been trying to get audio to the set and found the options in the Gforce control panel, but it goes on to ask for the device in windows to be switch and windows dose not have a listing for such a device.

So I am not sure how to finish this up and use the TV as I wish. So is it possible to do so and if so I could really use the help.

Go to the Start Orb and type in Audio and then select Manage Audio Devices. Right click HD or HDMI as default. Right click again and select Test. If it works you will hear the test.

According to what I see, your video card has built in HDMI audio. First thing is to verify you have the correct video card driver, use the ASUS supplied driver to start with (other NVIDIA drivers should work but use the ASUS supplied initially). Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the SOUND Panel/Playback section. The HDMI should be listed as one of the playback options and if an HDMI cable is plugged in, many will automatically switch to HDMI as the default playback device. If its not set as default playback device with a cable connected, set it as default. If you still do not get HDMI audio, there may be a hardware problem with the card.

The only thing I can think of is you don't have the proper cable plugged into the proper place. Double check you video card instructions.

According to what I see, your video card has built in HDMI audio.

Actually it doesn't. What it has (and all Nvidia 8xxx/9xxx series with a HDMI port) is audio passthrough. It doesn't have built in audio like the AMD HD series and the newer Nvidia cards. To get sound over HDMI from that card you have to connect it to the SPDIF header on the motherboard or sound card,

Guide: 8800GT/9800GT/9800GTX Sound over HDMI (Now including Creative cards)
So where can I get that wire I will need? I don't have anything extra to cut even if I was willing to cut stuff from in the case.

As this is an old, discontinued, video card, that gets HDMI via an adapter, along with the needed S/PDIF connection to the PC's motherboard (if the motherboard even has an S/PDIF connector) is would probably be better to upgrade to a new video card that does have built in audio and HDMI.

That would require more money then I could afford at the moment.

As for the cable if it did come with the box, then I can only say it is in storage and not something I can find or pull out easily. i just recently moved and don't have all my stuff out or know where it would be.

According to the MSI site specs for your motherboard, the internal (on the motherboard) S/PDIF connection is "optional" - whatever "optional" means, its not stated on the MSI site.

Before you start tearing moving boxes apart looking for the S/PDIF cable, check the motherboard to see if you have the "optional" S/PDIF connection. If you don't there is no need to go any further and the only way you are going to get HDMI audio is to upgrade the video card.

Ahh...egg on my face here, but I upgraded and I guess I forgot to change my system specs here (sorry)

Current card is a Newegg.com - MSI 870A-G54 (FX) AM3+ AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard and it said "1 x Optical" under that option so I would say I do have one. Now I just need to go from there.

12 post and find out we are working with the wrong motherboard. The egg is in our face.

No it is mine. my old motherboard died at the binging of this year and I replaced it. I thought I went to seven forums and changed it, but I guess I forgot and been so long I just left it as thinking it was a done deal.
