You know what would be nice? If windows 7 (or, really, all versions of windows, I still run XP on another machine) allowed one to change the order of one's control panel icons (drag/reorder), so you could group similar features together (in "all control panel items"/"small icons" view).

This should not be that difficult, if facebook can do it in photo albums, surely microsoft can figure it out in explorer?

It would be much faster and easier to administrate my system if I could group similar items in the control panel nearby one another, instead of having to skim an entire page of randomosity to find the one thing I need to access.

That is "more or less" the concept of the Category view. Not as flexible as you may prefer, but it's in the "outfield" of the "ballpark".

In regards to your last statement, I don't find an alpha list, using small icons view, that difficult to use when trying to locate an item.

You probably don't have the same type of brain as I do. I find it very difficult to hold cohesive thoughts when faced with a long list of things which have no apparent relativity to one another mixed within a ton of other things that have no relation to one another (I forget what I am looking for when I read something else). A friend suggested I make a folder with shortcuts to everything, that way I could reorder it into categories that make sense to my brain. It really shouldn't be that hard for microsoft to make it so one can reorder that folder.
