realtek high definition audio device - no sound

Hi,
I just got a new PC and I can't get the sound to work. My PC has the following specs:

Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Enterprise Edition 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)

DirectX Version 11.0

CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz

Mainboard Model Z68A-G43 (G3) (MS-7750) (0x000004E0 - 0x8FF0BC90)

BIOS
vendor American Megatrends Inc.
version V5.0
date 04/19/2012

My system is not muted :)

  • I have tried to update the driver from both Realteks and MSIs web pages - no luck.
  • I have tried to connect my headphones in both rear and front - no luck.
  • When I play audio - I do see green bars in under the playback tab under sound devices.
  • I do have the Realtek HD Audio Manager
I have noticed that when I mark "Disable front panel jack detection" in the Realtek HD audio manager, the headphones appears to be connected in the playback tab, when I uncheck it, the headphones seems to be disconnected in the playback tab.

Can anyone help me please

Is the "Speakers" set as the default audio playback device? That setting is in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel.

@ Fiireberd: I have tried to set speakers as default, but can't (they are showing as disconnected). However I have a "HD audio 2nd device" showing, which is set to default.
When I choose the sound panel I get the following warning:
Audio Enhancements problem
"Windows has detected that audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems:
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Would you like to disable driver enhancements for this device?"


+ I get the same error for
"Realtek HD audio 2nd output" and "Realtek digital output"

This is obviously a part of the problem, but I have NO IDEA how to fix it :cry:
HELP! :D

It sounds like the two sound devices listed may be the problem. You can have two audio devices if you have HDMI audio from the video card. The HDMI audio is normally only enabled if you have an HDMI cable plugged into the video card.

Uninstall both audio devices listed in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and install the audio. This may take care of the problem.

For the sound drivers, the drivers from the motherboard vendor normally should be used for best results.

@Firebred - thanks for the reply - I tried what you suggested, but still no sound..



After Uninstalling (including the driver), I get 3 high definition audio devices in device manager. One of them has an error code: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". The driver for this device is signed by Microsoft (6.1.7601.17514). I now have 1 audio device (Digital audio (S/PDIF)) connected, and 3 (speakers, headphones and digital audio (HDMI)) which are showing as disconnected. I have tried to conncet my headphones in all jacks (I know I can see where to plug them in under sound/playback/proporties. However no sound.

I have then tried updating the driver using the one found on the vendors (MSIs) web page. One device is now showing as “Realtek High definition Audio”. The device with the error code is still showing as High definition Audio device.Under sound/playback I now have "Realtek Digital Output" as the only one connected (and speakers and digital audio (HDMI)) which are showing as disconnected).
However still no sound....


I'm lost:cry:

It sounds like there is still more than one audio device. As you have an i7 3770K, it has bult in video capabilities and maybe audio for the HDMI. That would account for one audio device (but it would only be active if an HDMI cable is plugged in). The RealTek is or should be one of the audio entries and should be your PC audio. I don't know where the third one is coming from.

Contact MSI and see if they have an answer for why you have 3 entries and what that is.

Hdmi notebook to tv - no sound

This has been bounced back and force but I've yet to see the answer.

I have a HP DV6000 entertainment notebook with HDMI output. I'm trying to use it with my new Vizio HD tv. The picture is great but there's no sound. I've checked the sound and switched it from speakers to Realtek HD. The sound bar is bouncing as if it's working but still there's no sound. I've updated the driver and gone through everything I know of but still no sound.

Now, the truth is that I did have the sound working a week ago but it seems that since my Firefox updated this stopped working. I'm wondering if his has had anything to do with is. Did some add on disable my Realtek HD?

Any ideas?

Solved it! - there are hidden 'Connector Settings'

When you open the Realtek HD Audio Manager (double-click the orange speaker in the tray),
there is a small folder-like icon in the top-right area that says "Connector Settings" (near the 'Device advanced settings' and 'ANALOG').

Clicking this folder-icon opens a small dialog with two check-boxes:
make sure the first check-box ("Disable front panel jack detection") is CHECKED -
this causes both front and rear jacks to work, without the system trying to figure-out if the front jack is being used or not.

This is really worked for me, hope it has to be shared in youtube, for right simple solution for the problem.
