What's the Best Anti-Malware?

Can Safe Run in KIS 12 be set up to run a browser in effectively? I tried using the Comodo Sandbox to run my browser in, but it would not allow any user defined changes during a session such as the updating of adblock filters.

Max I don't know but will find out as I only use it for my financial and confidential stuff that I can configure to happen automatically.

Now I found this video and it looks like what you are after. I haven't tried it yet myself but am going to I am also going to check with the K - Lab forum that I go on to make sure - that might take a little while but I will get back to you.

In any case the on line banking is brilliant and I wouldn't use anything else.

Max I think I've found the answer myself for you - from the video you saw how the Safe Run was set up - now set a desktop short cut - it will open your browser in Safe Run mode and any subsequent tabs. If you want to just run your browser with out Safe Run just use your normal taskbar quick launch. Well that's what is happening at my end.

Here are the browser opened with the taskbar launch and the one with the green edge the desktop icon. The subsequent tabs are also green edged in the Safe Run mode.

I watched the Safe Run in KIS 12 video and it sounds quite similar to Sandboxie including the outlined safe pages which is optional in Sandboxie with several different added features such as an Antivirus which aren't needed in the virtualization of Sandboxie which Tzuk developed in 2004 and has been perfecting ever since.

I prefer running software that is a developer's life work and each and every time I have had a problem with Sandboxie over the last 2 1/2 years Tzuk personally found a solution for me.

KIS 12 looks like quite capable software, but unfortunately I would not be able to run my Opera browser which employs its own powerful website digital certificate verification under it.

Yes Max the KIS does have a few limitations and I must admit I only use the safe run for my financial and confidential stuff. Although now I know the Safe Run "trick" I am going to run any apps I'm not sure of in it.

But as a suite I still swear by it as past experiences with Norton, CA, Trend and McAfee have been come pretty negative.

The only one that I did like before was AVG and at the moment am trying the free Avira on the XP tester and it seem s quite competent.

Oh and I run Sandboxie on it too - I even went to the trouble of getting the paid for disk. I agree with you that it is a fabulous little tool but as I don't venture outside of IE on my main machines thats the only time I use it.

Hey but this has been a very pleasant exchange of ideas don't you think - as I said somewhere else there will never be a general consensus on what is the best protection, one only has to look at the different testing agencies and mags to see that.

In a way thats a good thing as it promotes a deeper understanding of what we are doing and lateral thinking, and that is what is so good about this forum. I personally have never yet had any derogatory or derisory remarks made re my input as I have on a couple of other forums that I go on, from highly savvy people / techs who are not shall we say very tolerant as they are in here. I don't mind admitting to being just a beginner and am not that savvy, and try to keep an open mind on everyone's thoughts and references.

Well I heard so much about this Comodo suite I thought I'd give it a try and well I ma impressed -if I wasn't so sold on Kaspersky this is the one I would have - even the free version is something else.

What I do like about it is the way it always advises one of the safety of whatever you open or are downloading. Anyway it knocks spots off some of the rubbish ones I've had in the past.

Kaspersky and Avira are both great products, I used Kaspersky for the past few years but started using Avira as it seems more peaceful, cant really make my mind up!

I think Kaspersky 2013 is the best internet security out there. So what if it is a little hard on performance. It's one of the best in the detection or any other tests (real-life simulation).

Hello and welcome shukla haven't had time to have a go at the 13 yet I have been as you will have seen KIS for years now and my licence is just about out on my mian machine.

So tell me did you have 12 on already/ and if so are you using the 12 config for the 13. If you are - just the defaults or your own preferences?

If you are using the default then if you like I have a config that might interest you that was developed by a fellow I know who done a fair bit of collaboration with Kaspersky takes a bit of setting but once done - all good. The config is good for 13 even though I am still using 12 it is not a lot different.

As for performance it doesn't affect me. PM if you like

The best combination of AV/AM software is Webroot Secure Anywhere and Malware Bytes.

They both play well together on constant on real time scanning. Secure Anywhere is clod based and MWB is locall definition based. Between the 2 they seem to catch everything.

Yep and SuperAntiSpyware is another free add on that I was put onto by a good friend I find it really good - just run it as you would MBAM.

i run malwarebytes pro and eset smart security 5 together, both with real time on and i have never had one compatibility issue nor have i had any nasties on my pc! i would HIGHLY recommend eset to anyone, and i would also do the same with paying the one off for malwarebytes pro. both amazing programs.

Hum don't know why we are discussing this so much anyway after seeing a doco on Anonymous last night you ain't going to be safe anywhere, anytime, anyhow, and with anything.

I think we are just kidding ourselves the security software we use is only good for what we see and detect and going by what I saw and heard any of the security we do use is only any good for the day to day crims and idiots.

The only really safe thing to do is to stay off the net!
