Solved System repair disc could not be created.Incorrect parameter 0x80070057

This is the first time attempting to create a repair disc.
Can you tell me why it will not let me?
I read a previous post about possibly deleting a partition but that cannot be the case. Although the laptop came from the school I am attending but it was brand new, the back-up says it is not set-up also.

Please post your full system specs.

Also, are you using a DVD or a CD?

I would recommend a CD-R.

You can't carry out a backup operation until you set it up.

Click Start>Control Panel>System & Security>Backup & Restore.

And then get that error, you can try creating the Repair Disk from the Command Prompt from System Recovery Options or Advanced Boot Options screen in Windows 7.

In the command prompt type recdisc> Enter

You should get a popup with options to choose which drive letter to create the Recovery disc to.Make sure to have a DVD in the drive and select start. This should then create the Repair Disk. A Guy

misterlance - Thank you, I just had this frustrating problem and you are the only one, as far as I can see, who pinpointed TrueCrypt as a problem. It worked immediately I dismounted the drive. Bravo!

If, like me, you were unclear on what TrueCrypt means -- it's a secure file-transfer protocol used by the "cloud" backup services like Sugarsync, Carbonite, Backblaze, Mozy, etc.

Once I figured this out, I turned off my cloud backup and -- yowza! -- had no further issue creating a system repair disc.

Truecrypt is actually a disk encryption software, but apparently used by backup services as well, so your info will be helpful if someone doesn't use truecrypt encryption on their system. Nice addition

I was having a similar problem, but after reading the issue associated with TrueCrypt (which I don't run), I turned off my DropBox and BoxCryptor (encryption for DropBox) volumes and the RECDISC.EXE ran without a hitch!

I am also trying to create a system repair disc but get the same error message "System repair disc could not be created. The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)" I've read in the discussion that dismounting a TrueCrypt volume fixes the problem. I have no idea what a TrueCrypt volume is or how to find out if I have one or if its even mounted or not. Can anyone please help me?

Also need to Un-mount Boxcryptor volumes

Issue has been a problem for a long time. After reading solution regarding Truecrypt, which I don't use, thought I might as well un-mount and shut down Boxcryptor. Thank you! That did it.

I know this is a dated forum but I am having the same issue and after reading these posts I believe BoxCryptor may be the problem but as above I'm not sure how to shut it down or Unmount it. Would that be Uninstall?

haha! Not Saying Anything. I'm glad it worked for you and others. As for the other services that seem to have caused the same problem, they may use the same method for securing the volume. Windows searches all of the mounted volumes, but it cannot access those which are encrypted so it wigs out.

Thank you mrlance. I reloaded win 7 64 bit after two years and added a few cloud servers in which to store things. Then when I went to make a system repair disk, I kept getting that error message. I looked all over the net and youtube and nothing worked until I read mrlance's post. I simply exited all cloud server apps and the system repair disk was no problem at all.

Well I solved this error by going into disk management and turning all my other disks off-line except my C: disk (system). Then when I ran create repair disk, no problems. Then I just went back into disk management and turn them back online again. Simples!

A word of warning, whereas Softtouch off lined all but C:, it is becoming more common to have an SSD for windows and apps and a rotating disc for Documents, Photos etc. I recommend leaving that second disc on line, it worked fine for me. Apart from anything else, having all your documents and possibly desktop disappear is a bit disconcerting.

Hello all, like others on this thread, I'm not able to create a systems repair disc for the same reason that was posted above. I keep getting the error "System repair disc could not be created.Incorrect parameter 0x80070057". I read the two solutions in this thread (shown below) and I logged out of my icloud and my Dropbox, but I still get the same error when I attempt to make a recovery disc.

So, how do I turn off this "encryption" for Dropbox? How do I completely turn of Icloud and Dropbox?
