Solved Help with "Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine" message

This seems to be an issue for many.
I recently had to reinstall windows on a new HD. I am now getting the error of not genuine copy etc. Can some one tell me what the issue might be? Thanks

Hello and welcome elbygump might a daft question but I know it is a new drive - is it the same motherboard cos your activation is tied to it not the drive.

I would be inclined to call Microsoft if it is the same mobo and run it by them.

Have you tried activating Windows using the Key on the COA sticker?

If you have, try it again.

If the problem persists, try a 3rd time, but select other ways to activate on teh screen instead of typing in your key
Call the phone number and give support your key and explain the new drive and error
They'll straighten it out

Yes this is the same mb. Everything stayed the same except for the HD. I had used the key on the COA sticker when I re-installed windows on the new HD. Everything worked fine for about 4-5 weeks.

I have re-entered the key on the COA sticker and so far, everything is back to normal.

YOu simply need to use Telephone activation - I can't see any problems in the report



telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Windows seems to be working fine, but now I have programs missing?!? Microsoft office products have "vanished"

Office is a spearate install to Windows - you r machine probably only came with a trial of Office 2007 installed
Did you buy the suite itself, or were you running with the trial still?

No this was installed from a suite CD. I have no idea where the program went. When windows "detected that this was not a genuine copy of windows" I lost the background picture on my desktop and it made the background black. I didn't realize it at the time, but all programs that I have installed since installing the new HD disappeared after windows spazzed out and told me it wasn't genuine.....sigh

Windows Activation/validation problems affect NOTHING other than Windows.
Installing Windows ONLY installs windows and its few included applications (unless installed from the manufacturer's Recvoery media)
You need to reinstall all the other programs you previously had.

It sounds as though you ran past the 30 trial period and entered limited functionality mode. I don't know exactly what functions are limited.

There's a tutorial or a post that describes the mode and what to do, I am still looking for it.

In the mean time, see if Office is still on your C: drive in Program Files. If it is, the correcting the limitied function mode might bring it back to life 0 I don't know yet - so just look.

I think there might be some confusion.

If you installed Office after you re-installed Windows and Office was working until you got the Not Genuine, please let us know.

Slartybart: I did install Office after you re-installed Windows and Office was working until I got the Not Genuine. It is very strange. Even the Norton anti-virus is gone. Not on my C drive.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Programs that you expected to be on your C: are not present drive even though you installed them after you re-installed Windows. That's very odd.

Try searching for Norton or Office. I've fat fingered explorer more than once in my life and moved a folder by mistake. If you find them someplace else, we'll have to figure out the best recovery. The easiest is to re-install what you're missing, but let's see what you find.

Do tapplications folders exist in either
c:\Program Files
or
C:\Program Files (86)
??

Have you been chaning your Profile/User account at all?
