Hey,Im a Rookie to when it comes to using programs to Get rid of certain viruses and programs, But recently i found out my Firewall and security center could not be started, I have used malware bytes, and a few other programs but this has only made it so that the firewall is accesiable now, I Was wondering if anyone could help me to be able to turn on windows Secrity center as it has been off for a while and wondering it has caused any damage. Im using a x64 windows 7 home premium
Im sure this problem happend from torrents or a file I downloaded a long time ago, nothing to do with windows is working, Including windows update.
Thanks :D
EDIT:Actually windows firewall has now turnd off again, Im also using Bitdeffender as a antivirus

Hi Lukester,

I've had good results on a friends sons' laptop with Rkill, see this link for info and download Rkill - Repair Tool of the Week - Technibble In my case no anti virus/malware apps would run, ran Rkill and it killed the process stopping those apps from running. I'm certainly no expert but it won't hurt to try it and see if it allows you to start those apps.

Decide on one antivirus and one firewall, usually running more than one of either of those can cause problems.

Try this if Rkill doesn't work.

What is Windows Defender Offline?

Thank you for the replys,
I downloaded and used rkill, it detected 2 processes that shouldnt be running and shut them off, Then it detected the Security center and 2 other things that where not running and That was it it said afterwards that it had been completed but to my joy there was noting changed on the status of the virus, Although firewall now does work fine,Any other ideas?:(

Rkill only stops processes that may be stopping your AV/Malware/security applications from starting. After running Rkill then run Malwarebytes before rebooting, it might find something that could be affecting you computer.

Let me repeat, Rkill only stops the processes preventing security apps from starting, it does not remove anything. This allows you to run any security apps to find if you actually have a virus/malware causing other things not to work, ie: your firewall and security center.

I did the scan with both and it detected nothing even on safe mode, security center doesn't seem to be working either again, but windows defender and the firewall i can turn on and it stays on(for a bit) do you have any other ideas or other programs that i could use?

Hi Lukester,

Could you please try this for me...goto your start, type in services, scroll down to Security Center, double clink on this and make sure your startup type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start)

Reboot...check and see if your Security Center works!

Not sure whether I'm pointing you to right direction, but do one more thing:

go to Control panel > System > Advanced system settings > TAB Advanced > Performance > Settings > TAB Data execution prevention > CHECK Turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only.. click OK .. OK.

Do the steps described by sammy3417 above, also do the same for windows firewall and reboot.
Now see if Windows firewall and action center is working after rebooting.
If not create new windows account, log in into that account and see what happens.

Also make sure you don't have multiple Anti-virus software, firewall installed.

Post results :)
