Hello,

My Win 7 64 bit system keeps waking up from hibernate during night, around 2-3 am.

This used to not happen before. I already read previous threads which deal with setting the network adapters not to wake up. I did that. As well as issued a dos command to see if I have any wake timers armed, everything's clear.

I do have a Logitech wireless gamepad connected, but I don't think that has wake power options.

Mixed sleep/hibernate mode is off.

Please help! Thank you.

Hello Romulus,

You might also check your wake source Event Viewer logs to see if it may reveal what is waking the computer.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179257-wake-source-read-event-viewer-log.html

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for the quick reply, I was away so couldn't test it until I got home.

Unfortunately , I have only 14 logs of power-troubleshooter source, and all of them come from Wake Source: Unknown...

But I have the system wake up every single day around 2-3 am. But the event viewer shows the last unidentified wake source from 2 days ago.

For some reason, I have a suspicion that the wireless gamepad is to blame. I bought it fairly recently, and haven't had this waking behavior prior. I disconnected the controller today and shall see if it changes anything tonight.

Could be your gamepad.

That time frame is also about the same time for Media Center updates. You might check using the tutorial below to disable allowing the Media Center mcupdate and mcupdate_scheduled tasks to wake the computer to update to see if that may be the reason.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...r-updates-enable-disable-waking-computer.html

That's a great idea. Because in fact I noticed the little green win media icon appearing often in my task bar. I will post back with results!

I just checked and my mcupdate_scheduled task was indeed set for 3:40am every day and set to wake the pc to perform it!! I think this was it. I'll post back tomorrow to confirm....

Thanks a lot!!

Thanks again Shawn. The problem is now solved!! Didn't wake up today and that's a first!!

It was that pesky media updater service. What boggles my mind is why MS would set this scheduled task as a Wake event by default. It's not like it's the most important or even moderately important task. I could understand Win update or MS Essentials, but media center?!?! :P

You're most welcome. That's great news. :)

I suppose they made that the default setting for Media Center in case you had a Media Center system setup. It's not enabled by default until after the first time Media Center is opened and configured though.

You're right once more. I did have Media Center set up for my X360 streaming. But even then, what's so special about media center to warrant a wake event...but i guess that's a question for M$oft. And another thing is, if they made it a wake event, why does the wake source always show unknown? This is something that should be easy enough to show in the Event log, since it is a native MS app after all :)
