i ran the memory diagnostic- no problems were detected.
i also ran the check disc from recovery.
these are the partitions-
c- system 199 mb
d- no label 282 gb
e- recovery 15 gb
f- hp tools 103 mb
all partitions are healthy
in "my computer" the d: is labelled recovery
when i ran chkdsk /r c: windows did not find any problems.
but there was this message at the end of the disc check; don't know if it's relevant-
"failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50"
when i ran chkdsk /r d: the disc check again stopped at file no. 50303 at stage 4 & i had to cancel it :(

i have microsoft security essentials running & i also ran a full scan yesterday. is there still a possibility of an undetected virus?
also, i did not get the significance of the .sys file you mentioned.
and what do you mean by running seagate & disc check outside windows?

There are 51 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
7338 errors occured during data transfer. This may indicate problem of the device or with data/power cables. It is recommended to examine and replace the cables if possible.

You are wasting yours and everyone else's time. You have a faulty hard drive. You will continue to get crashes, errors blue screen and such like due to bad sectors on the hard drive. You may fix them temporarily but they are reappearing as the drive continues to fail
REPLACE YOUR HARD DRIVE :) Eventually your hard drive will not boot and you will lose all the data on the drive.

drkitty it has been recommended from post #2 to #25 backup everything you want to save. Then do various hard drive test and if found bad to replace the hard drive. Their isn't really anything more I can suggest.

i'm not forcing anyone here to answer & "waste their time", am i? if you feel you're wasting your time by typing a message that hardly takes 10 seconds of your busy schedule, don't- it's that simple. i was just trying to search for a solution & that's why i came here. that's what this forum is supposed to be for, if i'm not mistaken? if there isn't any solution, that's okay, but doesn't mean i shouldn't have even tried. i have had friends spend good money over issues that could have been solved at home. i have backed up my files already & am prepared for a crash. thanks to all those who tried to help....

We have told you as a collective group since post #2. We even had you run several types of software to test the drive and show you the errors. You need a new hard drive so you will get all kinds of errors from corrupted files. False virus alerts, blue screens from hard drive errors. There is no end to the false alerts you are getting. There is a solution for you, a new hard drive. Yes I know it costs money. I know what it is like to have no money as I have no job and significant health issues.
What we are trying to get over to you is that you will continue to have issues until the drive is replaced. Also when you get your new hard drive you will likely need help to do a clean install as you back up may have corruption.;)

i do not have money issues & i do not mind getting a new hard drive. like i said earlier i have had friends spend money over stuff that was later found solvable. so i was merely posting the results of the tests suggested & was trying to clear my doubts so that if i had made a mistake i should not repeat it. i did not say there just HAS to be a solution, did i? how did i waste anyone's time? where was the need to be rude?
