Wireless connects, but NO Internet

W7 home premium - 64 bit OS - Dell Inspiron 5720.

Currently, I have a wireless network at home. No problem with 2 computers connected to it.

Wife just got new Dell computer. It recognizes the wireless, it connects, but, No internet.

I take the computer to work, and it connects right away to the wireless network, no problem, internet works perfectly.

I have spent hours researching this. I have totally uninstalled McAfee.

Suggestions welcome, TIA

Not sure what you are asking. I have a wireless network. One router. I have two laptops that connect to it, have done so without problem for years.

I have tried to add a new laptop, simply want it to connect to the wireless. It does get connectivity. But, there is NO internet access.

Today, I brought that laptop to work, turned it on, and it immediately finds the wireless network, connects right away, and I CAN GET ON THE INTERNET. At home, I turn the computer on, it finds the wireless network, connects, but, I CANNOT GET ON THE INTERNET.

If McAfee is involved then you might want to read this.

I can't say why this machine connects to one network and not the other but if it has anything to do with DNS then McAfee will cause problems even after it's been disabled or uninstalled.

I totally uninstalled McAfee.

It is weird. Last night, I fiddled with this and that, and it connected to the internet fine. Got up this morning, it is connected to the wireless network, but cannot access the internet.

I removed the computer from the network, re-installed it, still same thing.

When I get home, I wil follow Kaktu's instructions, see what that brings.

I took the laptop to the room with the router. Worked fine. Took laptop down my basement. worked fine.

Took it to the kitchen, worked fine.

The only place it does not get connection is at the desk it was on. Unreal, it works everywhere but the desk, which is not any further than the basement or kitchen.

So, looks like problem solved.

ping and tracert are simple tools to test connectivity. ping by tcpip address and you know if it can reach the site (assuming that sites can respond back). tracert is sort of ping but stops after first hop, then second hop and so on. Then you know where it gets stucked.

What's so special to the desk where it's NOT working? Moving laptop from desk even further from router works?

• Any concrete with iron in between?
• Many walls in between?
• Position of antenne in laptop (compare with old transistor radio with antenne)
• Neighbour's wireless router sending on same channel on close distance
• Some electronic device close to laptop

I really appreciate your responses, learned quite a bit in the process.

The only thing I can think caused the problem is maybe neighbor wireless. The desk it was on was next to the kitchen (first floor), above the basement, and the router is on the second floor.

No concrete, iron, pretty open space on first floor.
