BSOD when opening Pics and Vids

I apologize if this has been covered. I did a search and came up empty. I am Very new to Windows 7. I came from XP Home and am now running W7 RC. Everything has gone smoothly except for one big issue so far. EVERY single time I try to open a pic or vid, I get the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death. It runs though its paces and reboots every time. It doesn't seem to matter what format either. I've installed codecs that worked fine for XP and have also worked in Vista. But all the basic file types result in the BSOD; Jpeg, Gif, Bmp, Wmv, Mpeg, etc. MP3's do work fine though w/ the included Media Player.

Has anyone come across this?? Is there a known fix? This is a major downside for me and if it continues it looks like I might have to resort back to XP Home.

First could you goto c:\windows\minidump and zip the dmp file and upload it for us to look at.

*EDIT* I have my basic computer specs below in my profile, but if it helps my video card is an Nvidia GForce 6200 512mb card, I've installed the drivers that came with the card, I've installed DirectX 9.0, and I'm running the W7 RC 32-bit

I always have in the past, I just figured I'd need it for something. I honestly have no clue what it does, but w/ XP I always needed it. Plus when looking at the system requirements it said that I needed a DirectX 9.0 Compatible card. So I figured I'd just throw it in when I was installing the drivers.

It was the 2nd thing I installed as soon as I finished the W7 RC Install. I installed the graphics card drivers, then DirectX 9.0 and rebooted.

Thanks for all the help. I hope you can find a fix for it because the more I use W7 the more I start to like it. I'm leaving for now, so I'll be unable to answer any questions, but I'll check again in the morning.

I would restore to to the point just before you installed Dx9, if possible.

IF AND ONLY IF that is not possible, uninstall Dx9.

Well I've successfully uninstalled DirectX 9.0 and the problem still exists. I found this specs page (photo) and apparently I'm now running DirectX 11, which I assume comes with Windows 7 RC, which I assume is the proper one to use and is safe.

So, any other ideas?

I am looking at the dump file as well, I will post my findings when I am thru. But from the what Ant said, it seems the issue might be dx 9. you can do a system restore to point as far back as possible. I usually like to go back as far as a week before an issue began if system permits.

well, and uninstall of DirectX9.0 didn't work, so I'm now reinstalling the W7 RC. I'm not gonna install anything immediately and see if it will open pics an vids.

Well the lack of video and picture has been fixed. Looks like installing 9.0 was the culprit. However, I now have a new problem. I can't get my Driver CD for my graphics card to run. I can explore it, but I can't get it to autoplay to install the drivers. I tried going to Nvidia's website, downloading the driver, and force installing it, but that doesn't work either.

My videos play, but they play like crap. And under the Device Manager it says there was a problem so the driver has been stopped.

Any advice? The card is an Nvidia GeForce 6200 512mb card. Plugged into a standard PCI (not PCI-E) slot and hooked up via standard VGA Analog.
