There is an easy trickk to do it. Without extra software! All deleted files where in same folder? Or some folder tree?

You still know the folders and folders are still there? You still know the file names?

I hope there's a restore point on your machine, so you can go back in time. Restore points are created when installing/uninstalling programs or winodws updates
  • right click the folder the file was in. Click "restore previous version". Select a point in time just before you deleted it. Now click open (NOT RESTORE!). Now you see the old state of that folder. You can drag and drop files/folders from that state to the real folder.

If there is a restore point... then you can see what it was like on that date/time. Works? How older the file how more likely the restore is possible

It's win7/vista feature
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/335-system-protection-change-disk-space-usage.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/81499-system-restore-configuration-enable-disable.html

If you access the disk form winxp/linux etc... files are updated without updating the old block-contents. This will make the restore points invalid.

After making a "restore point" in win7
  • all blocks on disk that are modified afterwards... the old contents will be saved as well in restore point.
See it as a snaphot on that moment. They are also used for "system restore" after a bad windows update or program install. Or backup a live system

In winxp you have to be fast, so the blocks aren't overwritten. If so, use 3rd party software to recover it

Data can be recovered until it is overwritten by some other data, Actually when we delete a file only the index entry which stores the location is deleted and that location is now marked as free space and ready to store other data. So if that space is not allocated to new data the previous data is still recoverable. Thats what recovery software is intended to do. Without spending any further time use some data recovery application like Kernel for Windows Data Recovery to recover your data. The best way to recover data is to uninstall the hard disk from which you want to recover data and connect it to some other system as an external drive and then recover the data from it.

If you do not have any type of recent backup of that file, you will need to search for, purchase, dowload and install a data recovery software to recover the deleted file.

You need to use this ASAP or you need to stop using your Mac, so as not to risk writing over the area where the file resided before you deleted it.
This is the last way and resort to retrieve a deleted file.
