I got this BSOD as I turned on my computer today, I did not install any new drivers or programs recently.

I attached the SF file to this post, not sure if there's any more info I should add.

Thanks in advance.

Hi LewdLove,

BugCheck 50, Could not read faulting driver name
Probably caused by : klif.sys

Your problem seems to be related to Kaspersky Anti-virus or your Anti-virus program, please uninstall and install Microsoft Security Essentials

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

Run a full system scan once installed

Repost your minidump files back after that.

Cheers

Dave

I cannot install MSE from safemode, which is what I'm currently using.
I am not using Kaspersky anymore but Avast, I'll try uninstalling it and see if anything changes.
Thanks for your reply.

I did it through control panel and the BSOD persisted, here's the SF:

I'll try running those tools just in case.

Hi,

cheers

Dave

Tried it, asked me to restart to finish what it had to do and BSOD popped up once again.
Is there any other test I can run? Is it possible to run a memory test without a memory stick/cd?

Hi,

do you have any other security installed, such as Zone alarm etc?

Ok try this in safe mode(this should stop the BSOD so we can fix the problem):

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers
and find klif.sys and rename it to klif.sys.old

reboot to normal mode

cheers

No other program, renaming the file fixed the BSOD.
I installed MSE and ran a scan.
Here's the latest SF file.

Was that it?
Thanks again.

Hi LewdLove,

Ok, Navigate back to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\klif.sys.old and delete, its ok its not a sys file as such and is safe to do so. :)

Leave it a few days and post back if all is ok and no more BSOD occur.

Yes that was the offending little critter. (Kaspersky left that for you)

Enjoy your computer (fingers crossed)

Cheers

Phew, thanks, I had to replace my hard drive not long ago, was afraid this could be another hardware problem.
I'll let you know if I get another BSOD, thanks a bunch. <3

Hey,

No Problem, glad to have helped
(Incase your wondering why i got you to uninstall Avast and install MSE:

Microsoft Security Essentials.
Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software
Cheers Dave
