Try changing the cable. You shouldn't be using a Cross Over Cable.

You will want a normal CAT5 network cable.

Corss over cables are more known for use with configeration of devices.

You may well need to share the connection of your Local Area Connection on the Laptop. As thats what the computer is connecting to physically. Then see if it will pass through. Im not positive on this though. Maybe someone else can help.

Sharing wireless USB to Ethernet usually won't work.

You can only share a wired connection with ICS, or you can set up a hosted wireless "Ad Hoc" network and share the wireless connection that way.

In all circumstances you would be far better served if you used a router instead of ICS or Ad Hoc.

Like I said, and as you found out, it won't always work and it's not meant to work this way and that isn't Windows 7 he is working on. :)

You would have better luck setting up a hosted wireless network but both machines would need a wireless NIC for that to work.

so this means that with a lan port i can share only wifi connection not usb internet connection

With a LAN port you can set up ICS, but you need two LAN ports on one machine., one from the modem and the other going to your other machine.

I assumed the USB connection was wireless.
