VGA to HDMI with sound -- HATING Google now

Hi there
are people getting the same impression that I am -- that Google searches are getting more and more useless.

I've been looking for a VGA==>HDMI converter / adapter so I can play video out on to a TV with sound and without needing separate Audio INPUT leads to the TV from a friends older laptop that doesn't have an HDMI slot.

Searches on Google yield PLENTY of HDMI==>VGA adapters --WHICH IS NOT THE SAME TYPE OF ADAPTER --this one simply prepares the HDMI output so it can be seen on an external monitor with a VGA connector. You set the resolution on your laptop screen. I want it THE OTHER WAY ROUND -- so the VGA output that the laptop has (the laptop doesn't have HDMI) can be connected to the HDMI slot on the TV.

The device the google search lists is when the laptop ONLY has an HDMI socket and you want to display output on a large external Monitor that only has a VGA type connector.

I've since found the device but Google should have answered the question with ease.

I'm finding now no matter how you phrase the query the answers are based less and less on relevance but on the nearest relevance the query has to a sponsored or advertised product.

Hopefully even the mighty Google will see it's empire shattered by something DECENT -- maybe time for YAHOO to resurrect itself again decently in the search area.

Google can't tell what you are trying to do with the device.

It's down to how good someone is searching for something on the internet. Google is a search engine, not a mind reader.

this is the sort of device I want

VGA to HDMI Convertor with Audio Support : HDMI Switches : Maplin Electronics

most of my searches gave me the "Bog standard" HDMI==>VGA cable which is no good.

Anyway prob solved -- the Maplin device seems just what I need -- will have it by Tuesday.

At least GOOGLE should interpret the ORDER of words -- VGA to HDMI is not the same as HDMI to VGA.

(Imagine typical Chemistry -- most chemical reactions are NOT reversible !!).

Personally I gave up on Google a little over a year ago. No more gmail, no more "googling" for me and for some of the same reasons as jimbo45, plus a few others. Using Yahoo search, Bing and DuckDuckGo now and have peace of mind while searching. Yes I find everything I need too.

What card ( exactly ) are you using, this is interesting, the card specifically states you will get sound that way ? I wanna read up on your card.

I just tried a google search for "vga to hdmi adapter" got this as the first hit: Amazon.com: VGA and Audio to HDMI Converter: Electronics

I then searched for "hdmi to vga adapter" and this was the first hit: Amazon.com: HDMI to VGA Converter: Electronics

It looks like google is working correctly here.

I imagine that google works differently in Iceland than it does here in the US. My guess is that's why your results are different than mine. It could very well be that google is not the best choice depending upon which country you reside in.

It may be a simple matter of the vendors in your country not setting up their SEO correctly.

The Maplin one -- in my quote - or the previous one by previous poster.

You connect VGA to the box plus the Left and Right audio -- while the output is HDMI which plugs into your TV.

Depending on the video card in the PC be careful of the very cheap converters as they won't give you decent resolution.

You want AT LEAST 720p but full HD at 1080p is really what you want. Your laptop should be able to supply decent video modes to external monitors (and hence the box) even with the "VGA" output unless it's REALLY OLD.

Connect to TV -- then use Windows + P to choose display on external monitor only -- then choose best resolution the box and your video card will deliver.
