I think that there is no way to do these things...

you might be right, but it never hurts to ask. The feature of aero peek to see desktop is useful, but crossing the screen to use it makes it less appealing a feature for me. Bumping this topic also helps to get the ideas some attention!

It was made to have the show desktop easier/faster to use.

In the quick launch you had to look for the button, with the new button you can blindly throw your mouse cursor to the appropriate corner without having to search for a button.

Yea that works great on a single monitor setup. Dual monitor not so much.

Can't please em all I suppose. Even then though, you're on par with the old style quicklaunch/show desktop as you'd have to hunt anyways.

you can 'calm down' the button, by removing the mouseover action - right click taskbar >> properties >> uncheck 'use aero peek...' - but i don't know if you can get rid of it completely...

Google - How to really pin the Show Desktop to Taskbar in Windows 7

I have experienced mixed results and do not currently use it.

I have a dual display setup. Works perfect.

Just great. My mouse bounced off the montor and cracked.
You know you are a redneck if you bounce your mouse off the monitor and break it

I simply forgot about the show desktop.
but use the windows key + left arrow or right arrow or down arrow a bunch.

Sort of

Based upon Antman's brilliant lead to google it, I found you can disable the aero peek part of the show desktop button by editing the registry DisablePreviewDesktop entry in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced from value 0 to 1. So reps to Antman for getting me to google, I just changed to ff, now I'm googling, too. Now, If I could just get the button to the middle of the taskbar, maybe I'll google it!

If you were to use Google to search for the exact phrase I provided, your first hit would take you to an excellent tutorial. Posting a link to that tutorial would violate SevenForums policy. The tutorial itself is a guide to resurrect the defunct Show Desktop function found in earlier versions of Windows.

As for getting the referenced icon to appear in the center of the taskbar, Google Seven Forums center taskbar icons.

Google twit.

I,jmacie did not want instructions on recreating the old quick launch show desktop icon, or centering it . I wanted to move the aero peek button to the middle of the screen. pc84 started this thread, and after 79 views and no comments, I responded by saying I'd like to move desktop peek button, to bump the original post. Now after figuring out a hint for pc84's problem, and thanking Antman for reminding us all to google it, I get the google twit, well no response for a clarification from Antman, so google sanctimony

ok, now what?
:roflmao:

The act of googling twit is something only a twit would do - or such was my operational theory. Too often, you force me to re-evaluate.

It is possible that I misunderstood the poster's humor. The assumption of familiarity common to a younger generation is one aspect of netiquette that I have yet to grok.
