It depends on how many programs you will be installing. You have to know just cause the SSD says its a 128 , 256 , or a 512 . You will not get that amount after formatting the drive and such. If you want to get a 32GB SSD drive you will end up with somewhere around at least 25-28 GB drive .

I have about 7% free space on my solid state drive and Windows 7 is still running just fine.

Anyway, you'll need up to 20 GB before installing your programs and games (if any).

So a 32 GB solid state drive would be fine if the only thing you put on it is Windows 7. I have a 60 GB solid state drive, and the actual capacity is 55.8 GB. I have 4.35 GB left on it because I have installed as much as I can onto it, including 3 modern games, and 1 older one.

Just to chime in, I don't game but I have several Adobe programs installed among the nearly 200 programs, and the OS and programs alone take up 57GB before getting around to the free space. (I have a 120GB partition for the OS.) So it totally depends on what you will use it for. If you like the way your prior drive was setup, see how much space you were taking up with the relative folders (e.g. Windows, both Programs folders, Users, etc.), then remember there are hidden system folders (swap, RECYCLE.BIN, etc) so I'd triple whatever figure I came up with and think of that as an absolute minimum, and would feel better quadrupling it. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Windows itself takes up 17GB, the rest is available for programs. Large files like games can be installed on another hard drive, as should be your user files and folders (pictures, documents, music and such). The rest will depend on how many and what type programs you use. I have windows and a number of programs including Microsoft office 2010 Pro Plus installed. I ran my OS on a 64Gb for over a year with no problems. A 128Gb would give you plenty of room for whatever you may need.

Yep! Although, anything you install onto the solid state drive will open faster than it would if it's installed onto the hard drive.

Yes, it will work perfectly fine. However, you are almost defeating the purpose of having an SSD. Everything installed on the SSD will react quicker and open much, much faster. What you install on a hard drive will open at it's current speed.

I personally wouldn't bother with an ssd smaller than 128G. The price of a 128G ssd is fairly reasonable at this point and not that much more expensive than a 64G drive. A 128G drive costs roughly 2X what a 32C does but holds 4X data.

a tech frnd of me told me that it will not help me much when i will use win 7 it will create many temp file like roaming files, temp data, local data, app data, roaming data, recycler data etc will fill up free space.what is ur ans??????

It will work ok but defeats the purpose of using an SSD. Your tech friend was right, to a point. You will have an app data folder with local, roaming and such no matter what you install or where you install it. That is a Windows 7 system file and the system uses it. I have a 228GB SSD with all programs installed on it right now. It still has all the files your tech friend told you about. He is wrong that it won't work, he was right that it will not help as much.I have installed programs and games to another drive numerous times and they work correctly. What your tech friend said was right, but that happens anyway. But, the main purpose of an SSD is to get better response time from windows and programs installed on the SSD. Install programs on another drive will not help them.

It comes down to how many programs are you going to be installing . I just checked my Windows 7 64-bit and the C:\Windows alone is 29.1 GB . I didn't run the C:\ Programs Files and Program Files (x86) . I know the total will exceed the 64GB if you were to get the 64GB SSD drive. It also comes down to how much money you are willing to spend on an SSD drive. I'd personally would get a 512GB due to the amount of Programs I have . I don't game so I don't worry about them .

Open C drive and go to C:/ Users. How much space does that use and how big is your hard drive? Also, how much space does Games you have installed take?
