For XP SP3 itself? Probably no more than 512MB. Let's say 1GB tops.

Any chance you could run Windows XP SP3 instead as a virtual machine? The advantage here is that the file only grows as big as it needs to be. So, you use the least amount of space possible. And you can run both Windows 7 and XP at the same time, which whips the pants off a dual boot. The downside is that you cannot run your XP box as a gaming setup as games don't run well virtualized.

Partition space for XP Pro SP3

I went through this a while back. My new Toshiba laptop hard drive went south and I had to send it back to the factory for warranty repair-not a very efficient process!
I order to pay my bills and other computer task, I drug out my old reserve that just never stops ticking-sort of like a timex!
My old HP came with Windows 2000 originally and I used a Windows update cd to xp pro. One thing about updating an OS, it generally leads to disaster as mine did. I finally found a brand new authentic copy of Windows XP Pro SP3 for $59!
Upon doing a clean install I used a software hard drive eraser first and then began installation. Upon installing , the question came up.............how much space do you want to partition. I had an old paper from Tweak Hound that I had downloaded instructions for a "clean install" a while back. It stated 10240MB was sufficient. I installed but I had some issues to which it eventually drove me to the point of a new install all over again. This time I partitioned 12000MB to make sure it was big enough and that wasn't the problem. It has been problem free since and runs like brand new.
I think most issues that people have are not deleting browsing history, disk clean up, and defragmenting often enough. On top of that, I use ONE anti-virus, a registry cleaner, and that's pretty much it! Too many anti-virus, spyware, malware, adware, and other programs of that nature conflict with one another creating most of folks problems. You have the malicious tool remover already installed so why not just use that? Some have windows defender, I don't see a reason for another! SpyBot Search and Destroy.........excellent program however, slows the heck out of a computer! Malwarebytesis another, excellent program, will slow the heck out of your computer! Too much garbage running in the background!!
I keep several programs on cd.............if I need it, I have it but it isn't running unless I allow it to..........and as soon as the problem is fixed, I remove it through control panel. Another issue, control panel doesn't always remove all existing files!! I always run a search for files after an uninstall and you would be surprised how many times it finds left over files!
A computer is like a car..............you have to maintain it constantly and on occassion, an over haul may be required!
This is just my opinion and it has worked well for me over the years. There are so many opinions on the net you really can't tell what's legit and what some want-a-be wrote! Trial and error removes the doubt 99.9% of the time!
