It depends how much used space you are trying to backup, and what program you are planning to use to create the backup.

i wants c drive backup when windows 7 got crept. I can reinstall windows 7 from this backup

As slam o Alakium, our new found friend! Are you going to be putting backups onto an external usb hard-drive? Or, are you going to putting backups onto another partition on the same internal hard-drive?

Although you can clone your internal hard-drive onto an external usb hard-drive, many recommend making full images of the System Reserved partition, "C drive" OS partition, "D drive " data partition -- onto a disconnectable external usb hard-drive. There are many free and fee backup/restore programs available to you. There is no precise way to determine how much byte space a backup image or images will take because all of the calculation depends upon just what stuff is being backed up.

Although you cannot say exactly how large a system image backup will be, it should only back up the used space of your system's partitions. It should be no larger than that. Usually the vast majority of the data to be backed up is on the C: drive, so a system image should be no larger than the used space of the C: drive. If you are backing up a D: data partition as well, add that's used space to the total.

Almost all imaging software uses compression so, depending on how easily the data may be compressed, the image may be about 60% - 70% of the total used space of the partitions to be backed up.
