Solved No Video just a blank green window.

First post on this ended up in Browsers and Web section. So posted again, sorry.

Using Win 7 and all has been great but as of yesterday getting a green screen on video clips on YouTube or on BBC Web News. If I right click the video I get flash options and if I "uncheck" the "enable hardware acceleration" then all is fine.

Windows and Flash are up to date and I use an ATI Radeon HD 5670 card with the latest drivers.

Anyone having these issues ?

Could it be a " Flash" issue ?

Any suggestions welcome.

The display performance is likely to improve with the 'Hardware Acceleration' enabled; it allows the 'Video adapter' to share the video burden (along with CPU) and contribute to a superior/better performance.

You may try uninstalling the 'Anti-virus' temporarily to see if that makes any difference. You may also try re-installing the 'video drivers and adobe flash player' and recheck results.

Hardware acceleration is activated there? Go to youtube. run a video. when it is loading right click on it and choose settings. untick the choice for hardware acceleration.

As it happens I use Avast Anti-Virus and the software updated to ver 8 prior to the problems starting. I thought it was Adobe Flash causing the issue but uninstalling Avast solved it. Seems the update process caused it ! Avast reinstalled and videos playing ok again.

Really? This is the first time I've ever seen the antivirus being the issue with anything like this.

God, no idea what on earth avast was doing, glad I don't use it.

Just an FYI for what its worth. I have a virtual image of XP Pro and that automatically updated and installed Avast 8. The VM became completely unusable. I have to boot to safe mode, remove Avast 8 and to return to normal added MSE. Prior to the 8 update the VM had worked perfectly. It was no slouch either with 3 gb & 4 cores allocated. So if you can hold off updating to Avast 8 I would recommend that.

Avast seem to have fixed the issues now, at least for me they have. Their web page has a newer version for download.

Glad that re-installing 'Avast' fixed the issue and 'flash video' works optimally now; thank you for confirming.
Should you face similar issues in the future, you may want to switch to 'Microsoft Security Essentials' to see if that works better.
