Working on setting up a new laptop (Samsung Series 9) and I can not get windows 7 pro to see my NAS when trying to do a restore. Backup works fine.

Trying to hunt down the problem I have also found that safe mode with networking does not load either the Ethernet or wifi card drives and hence has no network connections, I am assume (at least for the time being that the two problems are related)

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Safe mode with networking should load ethernet and wifi drivers without problems. They do load when booting normally?

What software do you use to (try to) restore? Is it run from a recovery dvd?

They load just fine for a normal boot.

I am using windows 7 restore, no dvd, just running windows backup/restore app.

Sorry should have mentioned restore works fine for files the problem only occurs when I try and do a full restore (the one where the machine reboots and then you select the restore point)

So just the default windows 7 file backup/restore. Not the system image restore.

Why run it from safe mode with networking? You can run it in normal mode as well.

not running it from safe mode see my original post, I found the safe mode problem while investigating the restore problem.

In normal mode you can access shared folders/printers? You can see the NAS and access his shared folder using windows explorer? Post some screenshots

You mean option "system restore" and select as restore point "full backup"?
Or you mean restoring the system image? You mean this?

The files restore works just fine, the issue only arises after the reboot for a system image restore

When I enter the path to the NAS (either by name or IP) restore can not find it.

All windows functionality (network and otherwise) works fine with the exception of the system restore and the safe mode w/ networking.

If you're talking about it boots to windows recovery environment. It doesn't have lots of network drivers installed.

safe mode is some kind of minimal startup. Not all services are started... only microsoft services that are really needed. And it uses standard VGA driver. So no network stuff will be loaded!!

safe mode with networking... that loads the network drivers and network services. So use this mode instead. Wireless and cable should work!

Why use safe mode at all???
