hello everyone,

recently i have noticed that the internet speed of my pc is a lot slower than that of my laptop. They are both connected to the same wifi network we have at home.
I ran numerous speedtests at the same time on both systems with all other browser tabs and things closed, and generally, the download speeds on pc were half of the laptop results. The upload speeds were generally closer together.
The speed on my pc isnt unbearable, im just confused as to why its different than that of my laptop.
I live in Australia, and the internet speeds are already pretty low.
Both systems have windows 7 64 bit and my pc is about a year old, whilst the laptop is about 2.
i havent yet done speedtests on other family members laptops and things in the house.

What are my options?
let me know if you need more detailed information
thanks

Wireless ethernet card (Adapter) which you have on your desktop is probably has lower speed you can buy a ZyXEL NWD2705 or buy a cheap wall plug from Maplin it will do a good job. or a built in ethernet card or connect it via cable you re the boss :) .

Ya your laptop could have a old card. You could buy a usb wireless adapter there not to much.

You do realize that the routers wireless settings have a great influence over the potential speed of the wireless devices.

You can't obtain true 802.11n wireless speeds unless you are using the 802.11n Only setting in your routers wireless settings, using the mixed settings will hold you back to a max of 54Mbps.

You can also use channel bonding to get even better speeds, up too 300Mbps with that NIC, this shows up as the 20-40Mhz setting.
