As whs said, the FN key makes other keys use their secondary function. Often these keys have a color coding, or box around them. A Guy

PrtSc / SysRq Key - Press, then what?

I'm going back to basics here.... You press the PrtSc / SysRq, then what?

As I said - Basics. To display the Screen Image;

Press Key PrtSc / SysRq, then > Left Click Windows Start Orb at bottom left of screen > Select All Programs > Select Accessories Folder > Select Paint > Press Keys Ctrl + V .... and your captured screen image will be displayed.

Hope this helps.

What is the model number of your laptop?

Try this, copy some text, any text, then paste it into a text file (notepad). Does it paste ok? If so, now press the Print Screen button. Try to paste into the same text document. Does the same text you pasted before paste again? Or does nothing paste this time? If you have Word, use word instead of notepad, does the image paste the 2nd time, or the text, or nothing? A Guy

Maybe the OP doesn't realize that the Print Screen button doesn't actually print the screen but only copies the screen to the clipboard? Nothing happens to indicate that anything took place. However, once copied to the clipboard it can then be pasted into some other application.

Alt-PrtScr copies only the window that has focus while PrtScr copies the entire screen.

How do I find out the model number?

When I copy and paste, it works. It does not paste again, and acts as if nothing was ever copied into the clipboard. When I try to paste it in Word, it shows a big, black dot. Strange....

Hmmm, it sounds like the print Screen button is captuing the image to clipboard, overwriting the copied text that was there. but pasting the image is not working.

Jack, it's Start orb > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool. Maybe you can update your post. The OP does not seem to be a pro and may get confused between my post and yours.

OK, back to basics.

In your case, either the clipboard is not working correctly for the PrtScr or you are not pressing the right key combination (check in your PC's user manual).

If you make a print screen and then do a CTL+V in Paint, the screenprint should show up.
