Solved Windows Live Mail contacts

When I select to send a contact, their name shows last name first on the to: line.
I want to show it as John Doe instead of Doe, John.
Any ideas. Thanks Shiron

I am sorry. I meant to say when I go to the contacts and select "mail" no matter how I sort the contacts the name come out last name first such as Doe,John instead of John Doe. I have tried putting the first names as last name in the contact list but that is much too complicated. I want the people I write to to see their names as you would write anyone..... John Doe, or Sally Smith not the last names first.

Maybe a repair will fix this. Go to control panel>programs and features>select Windows Live Essentials and choose the repair option in the window that presents itself.

Thanks but there is no showing of Windows Live Essentials in my control panel features.

So when you click on the programs and features in the control panel, Windows Live Essentials is not showing in the list of installed programs?

Open WLMail, open Contacts (Ctrl + 3), Sort by, choose First name

Highlight the email account and click on
Properties
General


In there you can put the name as John Doe ( you can fix it there)

I have found the only way to accomplish this is to sort my contacts by first name and then select from my list by looking in contacts by first name and selecting from there then it does show John Doe. However it is MUCH easier to look up contacts using last names. Oh well, I guess when Microsoft changed from Outlook Express which does give you a "display name" for your contacts to WLM they didn't choose to do the same. Thanks again.

Hello Shiron,
You should never post your email address (or any personal info) in a public forum or website.
You could get hit with a lot of spam, or worse.

Very strange because I can put the first name then last and when picking this contact to send an email it goes exactly like it was in the contact I created

Are you aware you can filter the contact list when you are sending an email?
You can enter Jones, so all contacts with Jones should be listed, even if the contacts are sorted by First Name and you are looking for Jones as a Last Name.

Also, did you ever answer Post #7 by BrightBlessings about seeing Windows Live Essentials listed in Programs and Features?
If it's not listed there, I think you have some issues.
If it is listed, you should be able to do a Repair, if necessary.

With WLM 2011 I can Sort by First Name, search (and select) by Last Name, and the email shows First-Name, Last-Name in the To field.:huh:
