I've always used McAfee but everybody keeps telling me to stay away from it so I decided I'd follow their advice, but I kind of need a new AV. Couldn't get used to MSE, so I'm thinking either MBAM, Avira or Kaspersky. What do you guys think?

Malwarebytes Anti Malware is not a anti virus. It's as it's name implies. Great program for what it is designed for.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials for my anti virus and I'm pleased with it.

I. too, use MSE and am very pleased with it.

I also run Malwarebytes Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

and Superantispyware SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

One other program is WOT - shows a Green dot if site is safe, or a yellow if questionable and Red if dangerous. Download the WOT add-on | WOT (Web of Trust)

With these programs (and of course Safe surfing, you should be fine).

I, uh... read that already :p

I was in doubt over these three (now two), so I decided I might as well ask. I was uncertain if I should post there or create a new thread, so if I did it wrong I'm sorry
No need to be sorry, you did fine. The thread was to show what a couple hundred people think, a couple hundred different opinions.
I vote for Norton Internet Security. I've used it with no issued for 7 or so years. Most people on the forum hate it though, but haven't used it themselves recently.

I was taking a look at the AV-Comparatives website and wow, BitDefender did astoundingly well in all test and was best in most of these. What do you guys think about their software, support and service as a whole?

I've never used Bit Defender, but am considering it. If I remember it very costly compared to the rest.
I'm wrong, it's F-Secure being expensive.
Security software showdown! 9 antivirus suites empirically tested | PCWorld

I have been using Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 since Feb this year. I have had no problems it just does its thing in the back ground. So far I have been very impressed.

Andy
Yeah, I'm running Bitdefender and, just like you, I'm impressed. Liking it a lot so far, intuitive UI, low performance impact, gaming mode (gaming mode!). Looks good for now.

Thanks for your input and feedback guys, it's very much appreciated. ;)

I`ve been using bitdefender since jan 2013 and think its the best I have ever used and that's most of them.
depending on which version (there are several)it has some fantastic additions not normally found in other av packages.
such as:
1.a safe mode .Which restarts the pc and loads an ubunto scanning program which is easy to use(same as a rescue cd):
2.Disk clean.
3.defrag.
4.it runs in the background(auto pilot)or set to user you can customize it.
5.switches to game mode automatic or add specific games.

not trying to sell it. just try first.whats to loose before you pay out.
good luck topper.

you can trial it for 30 days I`m curently using there total security package.
the downside there support is a bit to be desired.
