Solved Cannot convert flash drive to NTFS

OK, now repeat the Low Level format, but now check Perform quick wipe (just remove partitions and MBR) and then Format this device. This will just take a second to undo whatever has been done by Windows Disk Management.

Then format to FAT32 with the HP Tool. If it goes through we will know that your pen drive is good.

After ascertaining this, format it with the same HP Tool to NTFS.( In both cases quick format will do as your first sector will be clean)

I shall wait for your reply before going to bed.

EDIT: You can try VistaKing's suggestion too. your choice.

I tried what jumanji said.
Low level format successful, format to fat32 successful.
When I tried to format to NTFS, the format failed ....

Start over

Close the command prompt .

Open a new elevated command prompt

Click on the start rb: button type CMD inside the Search programs and files box . Right-click on CMD under Programs (1) choose Run as administrator . On the User Access Control window click on the Yes button .

Command Prompt opens to C:\Windows\System32>_

Type the following

DISKPART
SELECT DISK [COLOR="Red"][B]#[/B][/COLOR]
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1 
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
ASSIGN LETTER=?
EXIT
EXIT

   Note

# is the drive number . Usually its Disk 1 if you have only one hard drive and one USB flash drive in the PC
ACTIVE command makes the drive bootable
? Type in a Drive Letter

How big is this USB drive ? Is it able to format in FAT32 ?

As seen here it easily formats to FAT32.
It's a 32 GB Kingston DataTraveler.

( For your information, I had tried what I had prescribed in post #12, on my Imation 1 GB pendrive, verbatim and was able to format it both as FAT32 and NTFS.)

Try this

:ar: Click Start, type devmgmt.msc in the Search textbox and press Enter.

:ar: Find Disk Drives and expand it.

:ar: Find the USB flash drive you want to format, and double-click it. It opens the Properties dialog box.

:ar: Click Policies tab.

:ar: By default, the Optimize for quick removal option selected, switch it to Optimize for performance and then press OK.

Just now, I formatted my only 32GB HP v250W ( made by PNY) to NTFS using the HP Tool. No problem.

Without wasting any further time, I shall go ahead testing the Kingston drive with H2testw.

Please post the screenshot of the result.

If it turns out to be a genuine 32 GB drive ( at this point of time, I do not rule out that possibility.) then it may be a hardware limitation of Kingston Data Traveler pen drive.

In that case you have two options,

1. Get another brand 32GB pen drive with warranty.

2. Format your Kingston to exFAT with Windows and check whether you can copy and transfer large files. (after cleaning the first sector with LLF tool). Many users who had this problem did that.

I'm getting to the point where it won't allow it to format to NTFS even though its 32GB flash drive .

You even get an error when you try to convert from FAT32 to NTFS

convert [B][COLOR="Red"]X[/COLOR][/B]: /FS:NTFS

   Note

X is the Drive letter of the flash drive
