System Upgrade after about 3 years

This One - Samsung 840 Series 250 GB SSD Internal Hard Drive (MZ-7TD250BW)
Has the advantage that it costs about 4K less and might be delivered in sync with all the rest of the stuff.

or

This One - Samsung 840 Pro Series 256 GB SSD Internal Hard Drive (MZ-7PD256BW)
Costs more, may be delivered later. But has about 6GB more than the 1st one.

They are both good and I was able to grab one of the last 830's left. I would for cost be tempted to grab the non-pro version but don't......get the Pro Series. I also have two of these and they rock as well !

I don't think any computer component likes this type of interruption or the voltage spikes up or down. I suggest everyone get a appropriate sized UPS.

Well guys,

I had a long think, and then decided that I will shelve the SSD idea for a little while.

My 1KVA APC UPS has given me nearly 7 years of trouble-free service, with only two battery replacements in that perdiod.

However it is now beginning to show its age, with line detection failing and drastically reduced backup time.

Therefore I have decided that for now, instead of the SSD, I shall buy a new 1500VA APC UPS, especially considering the heavier load from the new parts, and the deteriorating power situation here.

The SSD shall make a triumphant return in the near future.

I will keep this post updated as I receive the new parts and start the system upgrade.

If you are still in this thread, I was thinking of selling the old parts (motherboard and CPU out of warranty I am afraid), and using the proceeds to fund the SSD.

Realistically, what could I get for the following?

1) Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (Rev 1.1) - 2009
2) CPU - Intel Core2Quad Q9550 - 2009
3) RAM - Transcend JetRam DDR2 800MHz 8GB (4GB x 2) - 2009
4) PSU - Coolermaster Silent Pro M600 (RS600-AMBA-D3) - June 2012

Well in India like you said there still selling P4's I would suspect you could get a good chunk for it just being a little more on the cutting edge then what these guys are trying to stick people with pretty sad to here that in 2013 they still try to put decade old hardware on store shelves :shock:

Between the two choices the UPS isn't the sexy choice but it's the best and more sound choice especially with the power delivery issues you mention. If sounds like it won't be to long before you get the SSD and believe me when I tell you it will forever change how you look at them. Good choice, smart UPS choice....lol !

Hey pillainp..sorry, I was out of town for sometime....Well, If you are trying to sell..I will suggest selling in your state first. You might get high amount for that. And then try online for selling in rest of India. For all the hardware you have mentioned (Cabinet missing, If you can add that as well), you can get somewhere around 4000Rs to 4500Rs (70 to 75 $) for your old rig.

@Solarstarshines..In India we do sell Intel 3rd Generation CPUs......but in some parts P4's are still available and that's a shock to me as well..

If that is all I can hope to get, I think I will donate it to somebody who could use a computer. All they would need would be a HDD (I may even throw one of the 500GB ones in), a case and a monitor.

As to the old parts, I am looking at the local school where I work. There are a lot of very bright but needy children there. I will find the best candidate of those kids with the help of the authorities and give them the system as a gift.

Probably the least I can do for at least one of these kids. The Gods knows they deserve all the help they can get.
