Error 0XC0000010 with blue screen of death

OK, my OS is Windows 7 64 bit and my laptop is nearly 4 years old. Lately, I am getting the blue screen of death. This is the message:

"Collecting data for crash dump. Physical memory dump failed with status 0XC0000010". What does this mean? I restated the laptop a couple of times and now the error appears to have gone. I have no idea what caused this error or if the error will appear again. For good measure, I updated my graphics driver and so far the error did not appear.

But what is the cause of this? I did a virus scan and found no virus. I also used spyhunter to remove spyware from my laptop. Please advise. Thanks! My antivirus software is Avast! by the way.

Thanks, there doesn't seem to be any Minidumps within the folder, however, this is quite normal since the default settings for Windows upon BSOD is to write a Kernel Memory dump instead of a Minidump.

Please configure Minidumps to be saved upon a BSOD using ~ http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html

Anyhow, one of the first things to do, is to update the BIOS if a BIOS update is available:

Note the only bugcheck I'm aware of that comes close to what you mentioned is happening is 0x00000010, which is SPIN_LOCK_NOT_OWNED. Anything else like that would actually be a non-Microsoft bugcheck, so we definitely need a memory dump to get to the bottom of this.

You have to go the support page for the model of your laptop, this is the closest laptop I could find:

• Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / P Series / P-78

Please ensure this the exact model, updating the BIOS with the wrong version can make your computer completely unbootable.

There's no dumps, have you had a crash since reconfiguring the settings? Only new dumps will appear when the computer has crashed again with a BSOD. Please ensure if you have any scheduled disk cleanups are disabled, and do not run any other file cleaning programs, since these will delete any dump files.

There's still no dump file in your upload. Do you see any files called "memory.dmp" in C:\Windows or any files located inside C:\Windows\Minidumps?

OK, I downloaded the BIOS and in the readme file, it says, "Run "BIOS.bat" to flash BIOS in pure DOS or Windows x86/x64 environment.". I open the file and a black screen pops up for a few seconds. There are other files in the Zip file as well. They are Dos, Winflash, Winflash6 and BOS.bat. What should I do now?

I think the reason there are no dump files in my upload is because immediately after getting the BSOD, I ran Spyhunter to remove spyware form my laptop. This could be the reason.

Well the problem is, my laptop does not have a floppy disc. So what should I do? Just ignore the BIOS update? Anyway, I am not experiencing any crash dumps anymore.

That's good to know, it could have been a random one-off BSOD, I've had one like that before and never have had a BSOD since.
