Sleep Mode Still Freeze up, Win 7 RTM

I have read in places, googled it. But it seems to be caused by MB power handling issues. Which is why MSDN suggests you update your bios, or disable all sleep functions. My MB's dont have a Bio's update for them yet so for now I have sleep disabled.
I know that may not help but it is just the reason and quick fix I am using.

Edit:
My error I had was listed as a power kernel fail under event viewer.

Win 7 7100 x86 AMD x64 turion. . . All drivers updated

Had same issue as you. I use a gearhead usb mouse. . . . I was reading through this thread and it hit me (as it had froze up again after sleep about 5 minutes ago), BAM every time it freezes post wake up its at the exact moment of a mouse click.

Disabled the usb power management feature and have slept it several times, thusfar no issues!

Just to check.... How do you disable USB power Management?

I went in Device manager and unchecked allow it to wake, to no avail...

cool so it wasnt just my computer and somebody has experienced this issue and we came to the same conclusion..:)
http://www.sevenforums.com/223011-post13.html (thinking it was a driver bug...)
http://www.sevenforums.com/239287-post19.html (differences in vista's usb settings and finally looking into USB power management...)
it also seems like this is a definite solution until MS (or they might not even do anything, just issue a kb and be done with it...) says something about the issue

what i am wondering is how they managed to bring this problem back...
it seems that they introduced new code in the USB stack or how they check for sleep functionality (or they might not even check...)...
what i liked about it is that it reinforced my actions on disabling unused USB controllers and root hubs (and checking whether they are used or not) really helps in battery life which is what this is trying to do...
For example, a driver can make the following devices idle: the host controller, empty the USB hubs (including the root hub), and the full range of USB devices that are supported by the operating system. The selective suspend functionality is primarily intended to conserve battery power in portable computers. USB controllers frequently use lots of battery power, even when no devices are attached to the computer.
it reminds me of how using a new networking stack (from scratch ) in vista caused problems that were fixed even in 9x and Nt and 2000 days....

Other Info
love my wacom pen and pressure sensitivity...
wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
Just an FYI , ENABLED the USB saver mode and put comp to sleep 13 clicks later Frozen.

I also re-enabled all the other hardware they told us to disable for this fix (aka not letting the HDD go to sleep), and disabled USB and have not had an issue with wake/sleep.

Therefore the issue all along was in fact (at least with my hardware), only the USB.

I'd say this is definetly the solution until the prob is fixed

Heh, thanks for the responses guys. Yeah this is pretty annoying. The reason I would like to use sleep (or even hibernate... they both screw up) is because it'll allow me to save on power usage.

Sure I could shut it down, but it's sorta lame to have to reopen everything I was using. It's just a really badass feature if I could just get it to work...

Yes I have tried different solution without any succes till yesterday evening...

Ithink I have solved this BSOD with an update of my Gigabyte MB Bios.

Since I bought my computer I havn't did any BIOS update (since september 2008). I made an update and since yesterday no problem, seven wakes up normaly after a sleep or even hibernation.
Good luck

Sounds good. Glad it works.
I did a BIOS update a few weeks ago, so I know mine is the latest and not causing the problem. Mine works now though, so its all good.

I fixed my sleep problem with 7... turns out it was my power supply. Each time I would put the computer to sleep, then try to wake it up, you would hear the fans power up but that's it. The only way to turn the computer off was holding in the power button or hitting the on/off switch in the back. Well, one of those times the computer went off then didn't come back on at all! I left the thing unplugged all night, then plugged it in once morning came. It turned on, but once I did a few things to see if sleep was resolved, it went back to not turning on at all. I had a power supply I wasn't using currently (600 watt), so I put it in. Powered up with no problems, and it now goes to sleep and wakes up with zero problems. I'm not sure that the power supply is everyone's issue, but it was mine! At the very least, this may give someone something else to consider. :)

Interesting..... I turned Hybrid sleep off, and hibernate works. Not sleep.

Turned it back on, it failed. Hmmm.....
My advice is to try hibernate without sleep and see if it works.

~Lordbob

EDIT: AHA! I turned Hybrid sleep back off, and both hibernate AND sleep work! I think I will now go write a tutorial on this....
