Can I add a program to those available for the notification area of the task-bar? How?
Can I delete a program from those available for the notification area of the task-bar? How?

There are programs that I do not use in the notification area and I want others.

hi...with a little i knowledge about this issue all i could understand and solve it was that You will have to manually add the programs to taskbar notification area. Follow the below steps to add any program to task bar notification area.

  1. Go to the start menu icon in the left corner
  2. Right click on it to bring a menu
  3. Choose properties from the menu
  4. Go to the Notification Area Tab
  5. Click on customize to change the settings for each icon that shows up in the notification area

I guess I wasn't clear enough. I installed ACRONIS BACKUP program. There is not an icon either hidden or unhidden for this program When I go to customize, the icon for Acronis is not among the list of programs on the left hand column.
How do I get ACRONIS on the left hand list of the customize box?

The application developer determines whether or not the application will have an icon in the notification area of the taskbar and what it can do if present. You can choose to hide an icon if present but you cannot add one yourself.

I believe there are third party applications that can add an icon to the notification area but I would question their usefulness. To be truly useful this capability must be built into the application.

Edit: Note that I don't know about any such application, only that I remember hearing about them.

William,

As Miller posted above, the notification area is not user customizable other than you being able to hide or show existing icons.

You're best option would be to use Quick Launch. You can place it just to the left of the notification area if you like.

Why then did I have an Acronis icon in the notification area last week and now it is gone?
The Acronis program is still installed doing its job

The Acronis icon in the notification area would be for the TrueIMageMonitor service. Having it set to run at startup should add it back. :)

C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageMonitor.exe - Acronis True Image Monitor that provides the interface between running Acronis True Image tasks and the user. It allows to observe the tasks progress and cancel the running tasks. It is started when a user logs into the system and terminates when the user logs off. This program is not required by Acronis True Image to perform its tasks, and can be terminated if you think it occupies too much memory, but you will loose the ability to control running Acronis True Image tasks.
