Hello, folks. I really wish I had some solid, specific information for you on this one. I'll provide what I can, although I fear it will prove a bit lacking.

This is a reasonably fresh install of 7, made perhaps four or five days ago. Formatted partition, no risk of old data throwing a wrench in the works.

Everything seems to be fine and running smoothly, but a few times so far I have gotten a BSOD from out of nowhere. IRQL Not Less or Equal, triggered usually while playing a game under DX9, although one occasion struck while I was simply browing a news site (no videos or the like loading on the pages.)

Being that this has already happened a handful of times in under a week, I'm concerned that there is an issue needing to be addressed. I grabbed what were the latest drivers at the time of the install.

I've attached the results from the diagnostic tool provided here.

If there is any other information required, please let me know and I will endeavor to provide. Thank you for whatever assistance you may be able to render with this issue.

Oh, lawd. An installation issue? I wish I had known that before I spent this past week reinstalling everything after the format.

It would make a certain amount of sense though. The disc is the one that came with my brother's store-bought rig and, with past installs, I always had to call an 800 number and punch in the key, then copy over a code it gave me to activate. This time around, it started out as activated despite the partition having been clean.

Definitely not expected, but as everything seemed to be working and I didn't see any obvious method of clearing an activation to redo it, I ran with the ball.

At any rate, here is a copy of the report as requested.

That makes that installation counterfeit.
You have a Dell slic with a retail motherboard gigabyte motherboard. No can do.
Could you post where you got your Ultimate Windows 7. There are places out there that are selling counterfeit copies. Sometimes Microsoft can help.

As I said above, the disc is the one that came with my brother's store-bought rig. Was it a Dell? I couldn't say without asking, which isn't an option at 1:30 AM.

As I also said earlier, this same disc has performed flawlessly for years now, which makes me kind of quirk a brow at the thought that it might have suddenly decided to go on strike over a motherboard that it has cooperated with for so long.

Is there something else which could be causing these BSOD after a fresh install?

Understood. It's not a critical emergency yet, so there's no problem in waiting to see about getting this taken care of properly.

Thank you for your time and assistance thus far.

The installation of Windows is counterfeit.
The Product Key is from a Dell machine - the motherboard is a retail Gigabyte one
A SLIC table from a Dell has been inserted using a hacker's Loader tool to circumvent activation and validation requirements.
Such tools are known to often include other 'hangers-on' which can disrupt the security and stability of Windows - which means that the recommendation is always to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key, rather than take shortcuts.

A disk from one machine CANNOT legally be used to install windows on another unless
a) The License is a Retail one
and
b) the license is first removed from the original machine
and
c) the 'new' machine qualifies to receive the license - i.e. if the license is an upgrade, then the machine must have a qualifying license for the upgrade.

It makes no difference how many times the installer has 'worked' in the past - it's a matter of legality, not technicality.

It makes no difference how many times the installer has 'worked' in the past - it's a matter of legality, not technicality.

Considering that his rig has been dead in the water for at least two years now, I would think it safe to assume that the license would not be active on the original machine. Or any other for that matter, which you could have ascertained by simply asking, rather than coming in here to make an obnoxious post implying that someone were up to tricks without bothering to familiarize yourself with the circumstances.

Don't trouble yourself with trying to come up with another winning post to rebalance yourself. I've gotten the help I needed elsewhere and I have to admit that I'm a bit disturbed by how simple of a problem it was to fix. Reading other threads had left me feeling that this would be a big problem to tackle, but perhaps gentlemen such as yourself simply enjoy making a great deal out of nothing.

Thank you for your earlier assistance, Bear. I only wish your combination of friendliness and professionalism were mirrored by others here, but at least I can say that this little lesson cost me nothing more than a modicum of my time. Please take care.

Considering that his rig has been dead in the water for at least two years now,...
MS does not allow OEM licenses to be transferred, I'm not saying that you cannot get it to work; I'm saying that MS considers doing that a violation of the license.

You're missing the point that you need a license for the installed Win7, with a Product Key to insert to activate it. If you have that then you can use the latest official installer for reinstalls and don't need to use a disk made for another PC.

All you've told us so far is that you used a disk meant for another PC. But it has also been activated, so how was that done? A branded OEM Reinstallation DVD will not activate any except the PC it was made for.

Do you have a valid Ultimate Product Key? If so then you have nothing to worry about: just insert the key at Computer>Properties. Show us a picture of the Ultimate packaging and COA sticker masking the Product Key and we will provide you with everything you need to get a perfect reinstall.

Your not understanding things.
Your copy of Windows 7 that was installed by the manufacture at the factory (Dell SLIC) is not legally usable on anther computer. It really doesn't mater how many times someone has did tricks/hacks to make it work before. Once the motherboard has been changed you have some choices.
Buy a OEM builders or a Retail Windows of your choice. That is the way to get your computer up and running as it should.
Can you find on line another trick/hack; sure you can but you won't find it on this Forum.
I personally requested help for some very very knowledgeable people.
They came to give guidance.
Noel has read and analyzed more of these types of logs than most anybody in the world. I think somewhere over 25,000. When he post what a log indicates it's not a opinion it's fact. When Noel gives a opinion he will state it's a opinion. He posted facts. If someone doesn't like the facts shown by the log it's that persons problem. A person can or can not like the facts as they so desire.
If you want to get a proper install on this computer please follow the Tutorials and guidance of gregrocker. His Tutorials and guidance has helped thousands of people install a legal copy of Windows.
You can use the Forum Tutorials and find other highly qualified members Tutorials to install a legal copy of Windows.
On this Forum we try not to assist anybody in doing anything that is not legal.
Please read the Forum Rules it will help you understand the methods this Forum is run.

Your remarks to/about Noel in my mind is not acceptable in any way shape or form. I do not request for help from others only to have them spoke to in that fashion.
My help has completely stopped. Others will do as they see fit.
Have a nice day.
